Well, luckily for us here in Spain, school dinner time is long enough for most of us to be able to go home for lunch. When I was at school in England, though, they were pretty grim!

I had school dinners in primary school. Had them for a wee while in high school but they are disgusting so the majority of my year go to the nearby cafes/shops for lunch.

yes.

OK. Thanks.

Grade school: First 4 years it was school lunches. You couldn't even bring your own. If they weren't serving the pizza or burgers, I got the PB&J. Chocolate milk everyday. :)

Grade 5-8, it was bag lunch only. No choice.

High School: I never bought the lunch. I always brought it. Way too friggin expensive.

We always have lunch in our school ( but you have to pay for it monthly ) but for those who don't wish to pay a thousand turkish lira, they can buy hotdogs, burgers etc. from canteen. Still, there are people who bring food from their houses.
Food is quite good. It is bad on monday and friday because " THey already ate good food on weekend and they will eat good food on weekend so we dont have to make good food today ."
Well usually there is meat / chicken , rice / pasta,
In summer, they make hamburgers or even better, Dürüm sandwich ( Dürüm : Some sort of Turkish Meat, Germans will surely know lol )
They also have fruit and dessert, at the end of may and after that, we usually have ice cream

The cafeteria at the school I graduated from had their lunch program going through a private company so we had a lot of variety including a daily sandwich line where it was pretty much subways, pizza line, and hamburger line.

Elementary and middle schools had the worst food ever. The hot dogs (footlongs) were so rubbery you could almost tie those things in a knot. Then the pizza was square and it tasted like cardboard. The hamburgers, well every time I bit into those it tasted crunchy and nothing like a burger is supposed to taste. The tray lunches or what I like to call "The random shittery" came with some different combination. They could have spaghetti and green beans just something odd >_>. Holiday lunches were okay, they would serve at thanksgiving turkey over mashed potatoes and gravy it was meh. High school they thankfully had some better food. They had a coffee machine, slushies, pastries (wrapped) and different health foods that actually tasted like they didn't sit there for two months. School lunches sucked for me, so I would bring my own thing or go without, it was easier.

Elementary, I took my own shit.
Junior High - There was a salad bar, so I'd get a chef's salad, and my vegetarian friend would give me his chicken tenders. :P

High School - I drive to starbucks, or a local deli near the campus. I'm really not supposed to, but I do anyway.

We have a cafeteria at our elementary and high school. The food is terrible at both. One day in like..4th grade someone dropped their hotdog and it literally bounced back up. Ew.

I bring my lunch every day, in my Hello Kitty lunchbox. :) I bring a lot of peanut butter sandwiches, sometimes with fluff or strawberry jelly. :P Lots of apples, oranges, random fruit. Animal crackers, Wheat Thins, other crackers or something. I eat throughout the day pretty much, most of my teachers don't mind. I always bring too much food, my friends always steal some, or I end up getting hungry later. :P

In elementary, I took my own stuff.

In middle school, I bought on certain days, but usually just didn't eat anything.

Highschool, if I do eat I buy. But I usually just buy a water bottle.

a school I remember dimly: hot lunch

elementary school: mostly lunch from my mom. she always came to my school everyday to give me lunch. However elementary school is the only time the packed lunch was what I ate for dinner the previous day. starting in middle school it was milk/juice, some kind of fruit, chips/crackers, cheese etc

Middle school: mostly packed lunch. sometimes hot lunch

High school: mostly packed lunch, sometimes hot lunch

I absolutely love our school lunch. One one side, we have Pizza, nachos, tacos, salad for choices, everyday. On the other side, the menu changes everyday. It's awesome!

I never bring a packed lunch to school..

I hated my school's lunch. barely anything I like. the only thing I like was the chicken and fries, and that was like $1 more than regular price. for only chicken and fries!!

When I was in Grades K-4(Elementary School) I had to take packed lunch because our school only served food to those who could not afford to bring packed lunch. Grades 5-8(Middle School) we could bring lunch or buy it there, and of course the school lunches were nothing to be desired. However, when I reached 9th grade(High School) it got even worse. Our school board people made us join a "healthy food club" so they could not make any good food anymore. Everything is now steamed or baked. So I went back to bagged lunches.

I was the idiot child who decided to bring toothpaste, a tub of dry cereal and about 3 packs of Skittles for lunch, instead of sandwiches or something a normal person would bring.

Whenever my mom told me I was going to have school dinners that week, I used to scream and yell at her to my heart's content. Everytime I walked into the school's lunch hall I would gag at the sight of those dinners. I don't know why. There was probably nothing even wrong with them - probably just me being stupid as usual.

I used to save my dinner money all week, and so at the end of the week I'd have lost weight and have £17.50 extra to spend on a weekend. I never used to eat breakfast either, so I was always starving, I was such an idiot.

My school has lunch but its disgusting (of course). I could never eat because of my allergies and the fact that i eventually became a vegan.

Dinner was called Lunch in the U.S. during my grandparents generation and back. Breakfast, dinner, supper.

School lunches...right?
Never heard of a daily school dinner because most people go to school during the day.

We don't have food like that, its basically...normal food :P
Favorite is probably the pizza
