You'd want to:
Check your memory: using memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/) or Microsoft Memory Diagnostic (http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp);
Check your temperature: often the prime offender. Install a monitoring software (you often get one with your motherboard), then run CPU burning tests like SuperPi (http://www.octeam.fr/news/software/super-pi-mod-15-20060403497.html) or CPUBurn (http://pages.sbcglobal.net/redelm/), and see how it goes. You then need to do the same with your graphic card, for example with FurMark (http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/). Alternatively, run your game with the computer case wide open and well-ventilated, and see if it behaves better so.
Check your power supply: Depending on the CPU, motherboard, graphic card and peripherals you have, the power supply unit may be too close to or above its maximum power capabilities. It may also be overheating - in that case, run with the computer case open and see if anything changes.
Play without sound and check if you still get the BSOD - some SPU drivers are quite buggy and unstable with several games. If disabling sound playback works, then you can suspect the drivers.
Solutions:
- Bad ram: replace the ram. If you have more than a single ram element, test each separately;
- Overheating: clean any dust inside the case and especially in the fans and between the teeth of cooling blocks. If the problem persists, consider getting more efficient fans or change for a better aerated case;
- Overheating graphic card: Check if you don't have another expansion board plugged too near from the gfx card, and move it away, so the pgu has more room to dissipate heat;
- Overheating PSU: clean any dust; if the problem persists, either change to a better aerated case, or replace the PSU;
- Overpowered PSU: either remove peripherals you don't need, or replace the PSU by another one with more wattage;
- Soundcard driver issue: Get the latest drivers from your card's manufacturer. If it still doesn't work, try disabling any sound hardware acceleration in the dxdiag control panel of windows.
Hope this helps!
