ummm should this be in the Family and Friends forum?
Anyway my parents (mostly my mom) don't want me to shave my facial hair (which is starting to get REALLY noticeable now, and I so don't wanna be the only one in the grade with a mustache) because they're convinced that it'll grow out thicker and longer and uncontrollable.. I love my parents alot but they seem a tad bit unreasonable sometimes. I mean, shoooot, my friends shave too!

I'm sorry but your parents sound retarded
And shouldn't there be 2 a mom and a DAD who should know what shaving is..
And why we do it..
Just buy the razor yourself and do it, if you can't buy it on your own convince them its nonsense and its a part of grooming like brushing your teeth.

Tell them it's a myth that it grows back thicker - because it is. Then, tell them that it should be your decision when you start shaving - because it should. Then, get a razor (have them buy it or go get it yourself), learn how, and problem solved.

Lol you guys gave excellent advice but traditionally, in my culture, it's like disrespectful to just blatantly disregard your parents' decisions. Idk... i've never been a rebellious child. Ever. But I guess if I'm ever bullied in school because of this (which has never happened, and probly never will cuz i'm pretty much liked by everyone) then I will just go on with my decision.
And also they were born and raised in the third world country and i guess they don't know these things and fully understand american lifestyle and customs... i guess?

Shaving or some kind of facial grooming has been part of all cultures for thousands of years.
Explaining your point isn't disrespectful, as long as you keep manners & not raise your voice

I've been doing that foreverrr lol. And I just realized that if I keep asking them they'll probably give in. I've done it before... any ideas about this?

I am 15 and I have facial hair no less than a normal man. I shave with a shaver, not with a razor or something. If you don't shave, you will look like a cave man, if you do shave, your beard will get hard, as it will get eventually

Your parents are being silly. And it's weird that they don't want you to shave because in my school, kids who start to get facial hair never shave it because they think that wimpy pubescent hair looks manly. I'm sure their parents are like "when are you going to shave that fuzz off your face?"
Where are your parents from?

It is your decision at your age, parents are not legally given the right to control your personal hygiene, as long as you are responsible with it. They also cannot control what you do in your privacy, and as a teen you have the right to personal privacy. Also, shaving does effect how your facial hair will grow, but it is a known fact that shaving will become a daily routine for men as they enter their early 20s, so it does not make any sense to look stupid right now because it will make your hair grow, because you will just be shaving it anyways. I suggest just doing it, and if they get mad, they get mad, but it is your decision at this point, not theirs. If they don't recognize your boundaries, you need to define them for them. Just as they don't have the right to bathe you, they can't tell you what to do with your unwanted body hair. I hope you figure it out. :P
I hope I helped. :D

Legally, you're wrong. Parents have the legal right to compel their children to do basically whatever the parent wants, as long as it does not directly conflict with the child's welfare as defined by the state. You have no legal right to privacy from your parents as a teenager. Once you reach a certain age (normally the legal age of majority) you do have those rights - and they then have the right to say "get out of my house". Until then, the law respects their opinions and rights above yours in all cases.
This, by the way, is why you'll occasionally hear stories of parents calling the police to make their child do something. Normally the police will laugh at them and try to mediate the situation (because what cop wants to be doing a parent's work?), but the parent does have that right.

Finally, someone who is right! Couldn't say it any better myself.

Just try explaining how you dont want to have a bunch of hairs on your lip and chin. Explain that it doesn't make it grow back thicker, and even if it did, you would just keep shaving it.

It doesn't grow back faster or thicker - it grows at the same rate as it always has. I shave once or twice a week. I have stubble two days after I shave. It's always the same. So tell them that their argument is invalid.
If you wanna be discreet, just kinda trim with scissors or whatever. I used to. If you're gonna use a razor, like I do, and don't know how to shave, be very careful. I always shave after I take a warm to hot shower, so that the hairs are soft and the shaving is easier. After I get out the shower, I stick my razor under steaming hot water, rinse it gently with alcohol, and soap up my face. You might want, and probably should use a cream as it will keep the skin hydrated afterward.
Never shave against the direction your hair is growing; it can cause hairs to become ingrown and inflame the skin. If one area is growing downward, shave downward, not up.
After you've finished shaving, rinse your face with cold water, and pat it with a dry towel. Put alcohol on the shaved area. (I sometimes follow up using Witch Hazel). Clean the blade by putting it under hot water, and then cleaning it with alcohol. After about using the razor about three-ish times, throw the blade away.

I had the same problem, parents didn't want me to shave until 2 years after I had gotten hair. Tell them that what they said really doesn't make a lot of sense, and that if you need to shave, then you need to.

I never shaved, because my parents told me not to. But I didn't literally shave, I used something that we, people of today, have now-a-days:
