Would it be wrong of me to lie and say I have asthma and can't smoke if I was in a situation like that? I don't have asthma, yet I don't want to sound like I'm afraid of drugs. But would lying about asthma be a bad way to say no?

a straight up no is a good answer, you wont believe how many people have tried getting me high or drunk, they even tried spiking my water cus they they thought it would be funny. just say that you dont want to fuck around with that stuff.

Trust me, when they said, "Just say 'No'" they weren't kidding. Just say no. I've been offered to buy drugs and sell drugs. I said "No" to them, and left it there - no explanations. It was really that easy. If they want to get in your business and ask, "Why not" just tell them because you don't wanna grow up to be a dipshit with three heads.
Do NOT cave into peer pressure.

you shouldnt have to lie about yourself in order to make someone "proud" of you. theres no reason you should have to lie and be dishonest with them. just say that you are definitely not interested.

You don have to lie just say you don't want to be straight up with them

Just give them a straight up no i do that to my friends and they respect that

Say no. Just do it. Making up excuses will likely get discovered and that would humiliate you even more. And if you are sure you don't want it, confront them and stand up for yourself. Wimps lie.

This belongs in 'Drugs and Meds' thread, in the help and advice section =/
Either way, don't lie about having asthma, if you are in sports it'll disprove that. just a simple refusal would do.

This isn't puberty related. Drugs and Meds
Anyway, I would suggest just telling the truth. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to use drugs, but lying to your friends is never a good idea, per se, even if it's a minor lie to stop some peer pressure. Why don't you want to look "afraid" of trying drugs? Lots of people who have no fear of drugs prefer to abstain, and your friends should respect that if you tell them calmly and firmly.

Well as our Captain said, you don't want to die, so you don't want to use drugs. If they abandon you only if you are not like them. Then it is their problem :D
Plus, drugs and cigars are a waste of money, why use them eh?

you dont need to give into peer pressure. and you also dont need to make up excuses (not saying your asthma is made up, just saying in general).
just say no!

Just say no and that's it..
If you ever have any friends, especially older friends, that are worth a damn they will admire you for having your own mind

The "peer pressure with drugs" thing is bullshit
Almost no one asks you more than once. Every time i've been offered anything and said 'no' they've just said "ok whatever" and moved on.
most people DON'T CARE if you say no. to them it's in the same family as offering you a piece of candy or gum if they're eating it in front of you - it's rude to not ask.
if they're really gonna be "oh well you're not cool go away" they're shit friends you didn't need anyway.
[ps if the asthma excuse was going to work you'd have trouble just being around smokers]

Sometimes some of the people that I hang out with don't want to smoke or anything, so I just say, "hey, you wanna smoke today?" and if they say no, I leave it at no. If they are a good friend, they'll act the same as I do.

No, as long as it is simple, and diffuses the situation. I personally believe in telling the truth, and my friends respect that I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. Being truthful usually gives a more generalized better result. :D

I'm going to go out on a "the-whole-world-isn't-virtualteen.org" limb here. I've been in situations that would be VERY uncomfortable for someone who didn't want to smoke. Where I live, peer pressure is a big issue. Everyone does everything, and you're not cool if you haven't done something that Joe Shmoe down the street has done.
Not everyone is accepting, and you could find yourself in a situation where 4 people you're hanging out with want to go smoke. You'd be the uncool one if you didn't want to, and these people are fun to hang out with. But you don't want to smoke. I think if you find yourself in a situation like this, lying is fine. Lie like you've been in the situation before though. "I don't think my asthma would...um...be...okay with this" is different than "yeah guys I smoked a while back and I coughed a shitstorm. Not worth it this time". Guess which is more believable?
In some worlds, it's fine to say "no i don't want to". But mine is different, and I understand why you'd want to lie. Just make sure you're believable or you'll find yourself in an embarrassing hole.

Ok, I'm not encouraging you, but I smoked weed without all the pressure. Not my best choice but if there is any advice you should take, it should be from someone who knows what it's like to go through. I kept looking for my next high and I eventually realized that I wouldn't stop acting like this unless I stop myself. I'm still having trouble as it is. It's a gateway drug and can get you into some really messed up situations (probation). Just please, don't start. I will never offer someone (especially our age) pot because it's hard to get away from it (I live where pot is real easily accessible so it's a lot of temptation here)

If you have any self control at all, weed is not a gateway drug. That term is used way too loosely. Weed is different from harsh stimulant drugs, meaning it will NOT lead you to doing them. People think that "ZOMG IF YOU DO ONE DRUG YOU'LL TURN INTO A CRACKHEAD". This is not true at all. Humans have brains, and they use them to make decisions. If you consciously decide to do cocaine, is any drug before that moment a gateway drug for you? No, because you CHOSE to do something else. A lot of it also has to do with who you get a drug from. If they pressure you into another drug then it could possibly be called a gateway.

I think that it can be a gateway in some ways. For example, it made keep looking for my next fix, I tried smoking cigarettes and got hooked on those too. But I stopped smoking those. I find it hard to stop myself from smoking pot because frankly, I find nothing wrong with it other than the gateway part. I'm sort of going for an ignorance is bliss concept. People who don't get high on pot don't know and are less tempted by the high to do something else. But there is also peer pressure and curiosity.

The gateway drug topic is too touchy, but there is nothing in the marijuana that makes you physically need to try other things. It's your brain. If you tried cocaine first, then went to marijuana, wouldn't cocaine be the gateway drug?

Right. My point is it's more temptation and therefore a possible gateway. But a small one at that. But I also think that whatever it is or could be is not set in stone. I think everyone will find it different and is open to interpretation.
Oh an do you or have you smoked it? Because when I do it while I'm driving, I feel like I'm driving down a vertical face and my friend said he has never felt like that. So out of curiosity have you felt that way before?? Or is it just me?

Your driving story is a prime example of why weed should NOT be legalized, but that's for another thread. Weed is not a gateway drug, but it could be argued back and forth all day long. Your brain is what makes decisions, not weed.

Yeah, you mean you kinda feel weightless as if you're flying across the road instead of driving? So fun... Turning in cars is even more fun because to me it feels like a hovercraft lol... It's hard to explain.

Sorta. More like the driving down a vertical face thing. Like no matter what I'm doing, I am slowly falling.

this is like math:eek:, with multiple or infinite answers. Being Honest is pretty good but honesty could be more than just "No thanks" so Adding something like " i cant stand the pictures in the cigar boxes of ppl sick. I dont want to end up like those" or tghe one above "yeah guys I smoked a while back and I coughed a shitstorm. Not worth it this time". " Those will work perfeclty.;)
Telling lies and something involving "sickness" could be very bad specially that they are ppl going through asma and thats a terrible disease. So lieing is a no-no.:whoops:
