Get some orajel, it's what i use when my retainers rub against my gums and irritates them. It's just like the anaesthetic the dentists use where your mouth numbs over, all you do though is rub it in the spot you want it in and it all numbs over and the pain stops.

Braces do hurt for a little while since they are pulling your teeth into shape. If you take some low strength pain killers for a few days that will help get rid of the pain.
Over time your braces gradually become loose so you will have to get them tightened every 4-6 months. It may be a little painful for now but the results of having perfect straight teeth are worth it :)

Yeah they will hurt for a few days. Take some paracetamol. It worked for me :P Either way, the pain will go in a few days.
But when you go and get it tightened it will probably hurt for a few days afterwards, but you do get used to it, and soon you won't even notice the pain, and when you get the brace taken off, you'll realise that it was all worth it :)

Yeah, I just got mine off after having them on for 5 and a half years, so trust me when I give you this advice. They suck. They hurt the worst for the first few days. I was reduced to jello and milkshakes, but I'm a baby. Then they get better and are just really annoying for a while. They you get them tightened, and the first few times it hurts worse than the times after. You get pretty used to the tightening feeling after a while, and sometimes it won't even bother you.
Once you're used to braces, you don't even feel them anymore. Except annoying.
Tylenol or pain reliever helps....sometimes. Use wax if they are poking your gums.
Have fun! :P

I have been neating normal, but it hurts my front two teeth when I try and eat but I normally eat with the sides of my mouth so eating isnt even a problem for me :) and the painkillers have been helping me.

well i dont live in usa so i dont know what medicine or pill they sell in those fancy drugstores, would work for the pain. But i had braces and the frst days were really painfull. I started with my upper theeth. I could eat anything :(, just sucking juice and soup. But after some days the pain will cease. The pain exist becasue the metal wire is compressing your theeth so you can have a "colgate smile" then, depends on the case , they will put some elastic bands in your mouth, pushing or pulling the theeth. ouch.
Another problem is that the metal sometimes can cut your mouth
But as i tod you. In some days, maybea ,month you will get used to it and depend on the threatmen and how "hard" your theeth are. The time you will have them. Good luck :)

Tylenol definately helped me whenever I first got my braces. But for me, after a few tightenings, I'm getting used to the pain. :P I can feel it, but now-a-days it doesn't bother me as much anymore.
