Som what do you people think of the Westboro Baptist Church? Do you support their ideas? Do you disagree? Do they even deserve basic rights?
For those who don't know, the Westboro Church is known for it's semi-large preaching against "Fags", as well as being happy about Katrina and 9/11, believing it's the work of God. They have preached at Funerals for both Military and Civilians.

I am more than against their views. I wanna kill them for it. Their beliefs and knowledge is almost at a level of barbarianism. I think they still believe that the government created AIDS to rid the world of homosexuals. Also, picketing at funerals, is going over the line. They are a perfect example for limiting freedom of speech.

Yes, they are somewhat notorious. First time I heard about this church and stuff was in some LGBT thread. It was about their campaign against homosexuality and the like.

I wouldn't say kill them, as they do "peaceful" protests. However, they take advantage of the freedom of speech to spread these beliefs that not even any other church supports.

They're trolls who feed off of our attention.
Just ignore them and eventually they'll die alone realizing what losers they are.

Do they even deserve basic rights?

You`re right. If I wanted to kill them, I would stoop to their level, which is bad.

I find them extremely funny. I've never been able to take them seriously.

Every religion has its extremists. The Westboro Baptist Church is obviously the extremist side of the Baptist religion. The views they hold - as most would put it - are really 'out there' and more on the realm of an older system of Baptist belief. We also must remember that this church was founded in 1955, a time when every citizen in the United States was suspicious of their neighbor's being a wide variety of things (communists, homosexuals, fascists, etc), but this is no valid excuse.
They hold these beliefs because it gives them some hope. That's what religion, in a whole, offers people: hope. Though coming from an agnostic, one can still see that religion does bring some form of peace and happiness to a person's life. But Westboro doesn't really see it that way. Simply put, they find themselves to be some type of army for God and it's their duty to cleanse and purify those about them. Though they won't admit it, the Westboro Baptists are pretty much your average religious fanatics. Nothing more, nothing less. They are not a serious threat, but simply a bunch of religious lunatics who think they are God's gift to Earth.
I personally hold that they are not a real harm. If I were to meet a member from Westboro, I honestly wouldn't mind. But if they start the entire God and Jesus talks, I'm not going to be around to listen.

I wouldn't call them an army, there was an interview where Shirley Phelps-Roper said that if the church led the United States government, it wouldn't do anything about homosexuality or that kind of stuff, they would just threaten everyone with hellfire if they tolerated it. Even though that doesn't really make much sense.
This is the interview:
