Texas Governer Rick Perry has publicly suggested that Texas should consider separating from the rest of the USA and becoming an independent country. He thinks Texas interests are growing too far apart from the policies of the Federal goverment and something needs to be done. Do you believe Texas should be able to do this if they wish?

Yay, American Civil War II! But no, they shouldn`t. If Texas doesn`t like American policy, they should write a letter.

Rick Perry, lol. He needs to go.

Forget the democratic process or writing bills, let's send mail to the president. I'm sure he'd like that. I have some stamps with cute kitties on them.

Not only is that a stupid idea, it's not really possible. The civil war has pretty much defeated any secessionist movements, and Texas's admission to the Union does not allow it to secede — only to split into 7 individual states.

There was/is a similar issue in Canada where Quebec wanted to separate and become their own country probably with France. What was evident though was many Quebec citizens were against this as seen by the many "nay" votes. When Texas is suggesting this, I assume the same will occur: many people will be against the idea and not want it. It'd be a recipe for creating another civil war. I don't know much about Texas but I would still stick with my statement many Texans would be in disagreement.

that won't be happening and it's not possible, and wouldn't some Texans not want their state to be an independent country?

Texans are very patriotic, and the major cities lean democratic, so I doubt you could get a secessionist majority.

Texas will never secede from the Union, plain and simple.
Mexico wishing to annex back the Southwest, though, is a different story...

well they got enough people crossing every day from mexico but that should be another discussion
if the texans want to secede let them but also give no help or money to help them start up. i think the majority of americans would rather let texas go than to start another civil war

Those people crossing aren't loyal to Mexico, that's why they're leaving in the first place, because they think the U.S. is better.
As I said before, Texas can't legally secede anyway.

Yes, they will, because Texas CAN'T secede. If they try, the military will pour in from the north, east and south.

If a state wants to secede then its up to its politicians and people, and it doesn't mean were going to go into another Civil War unless a lot of other southern states left to.

I wouldn't work because the army of the other 49 states would be way bigger and more powerful than the army of Texas. Also, I think Texas (or any other state for that matter) is too addicted to the federal $ they receive. If the go on their own, they'll have to pay for their roads, schools, etc. all by themselves. Talk about a necessary tax increase.

Then we would have a real illegal immigration problem...well I guess people wouldn't classify it as illegal immigration because the people would actually look like them...

If they want to leave, let them. I don't care, the way I see it it's their right. I don't see why it's such a big deal to keep them in if they don't want to be a part of the US.

After the Civil War no state is allowed to secede from the Union.
