Basically, I always feel... well... Depressed (if that makes sense). Im always downhearted and get wound up over the slightest thing. Sometimes i can feel okay but most days I just dont feel very happy etc. When I was 9 years old, my dad killed himself. Do you think this may have anything to do with the way I feel?

Thanks In advance.

Mental Illnesses  Depression, Loss and Grief

It definitely is possible for the loss of a family member to trigger depression, as well as for a history of depression to run in families. Have you tried speaking about this to anyone in real life yet? They would be able to help you much better than the internet. Your family should be able to understand, if they've experienced something similar with your dad already.

How long have you been this way, if you can remember? Did something specific trigger its onset? :hug3:

Thanks for the reply. I cant remember how long i've been like this, and i dont think depression is in the family. Also there isnt any point talking to my mum and step-dad about me possibly having this, they will just laugh and be sarcastic :( I didnt think that an event that happened such a long time ago (7 Years Ago) could trigger depression after all these years.

well, if your dad killed himself, it is likely he had depression. i'm trying not to make any assumptions, but it is quite possible. Also, a traumatic event, even if it is that long ago, could have an affect in the future, even if it might not be a direct cause, it might be a contributing factor. I mean, you might feel lonely because you've lost your dad, even if it was a long time ago. You might not see the connection, but i think it could be there.

Anyways, maybe if you can't talk to your mum, do you have any older siblings? or perhaps a friend you could talk to?

I'm always here if you ever need to talk, just VM/PM me :)

Thanks. I would talk to siblings but none of my family would actually take me seriously which just makes me more frustrated. Maybe I should go to the doctor. What do you think?

I think you should cause if you do and you don't do anything about it and it's untreated depression it could lead to something worse maybe.
You can also talk to your school councellor or nurse and they will be able to help you and tell your parents if you want to.
good luck :) you can always PM me if you want to talk
