Cutting and Self Harm  Depression, Loss and Grief
---------------
:hug3: I'm glad to hear that things have started to look up a little bit for you hun. It takes time, but it is possible to get better, to at least learn how to manage the depression to a point where it no longer interfers with daily life. If you need to talk about anything, we are all here to support you. Feel free to PM me any time as well.
As for me, at my worst I was having breakdowns almost every day, even in front of other people, and was about to kill myself when a fluke of fate held me back for long enough to let the urges subside. Many dramatic changes happened shortly after that day though, and I think that I am a good example of how miracles can happen no matter how hopeless it seems. :)
Welcome to VT, by the way.

well, at least things are starting to get better and you don't feel suicidal anymore, that's always a good sign :)
me? well, i started showing signs when i was about 12. I started self harming to help me deal with it only a few weeks later, and that was the biggest mistake of my life. I go through stages of starting to get better, to suddenly getting a thousand times worse again. I've stopped self harming a few months later, but started up again about a year ago, and I've been on and off ever since. Hopefully, i stay off self harm, because that just made everything so much worse. I haven't done it in a long time, and hopefully I'll never do it again. The depression seems to always be there with me, but when i put on a smile, it goes away for a few minutes, but i can still feel it underneath it all, if that makes sense. I think i'm getting better, but i couldn't have gotten where i am without my friends :)
You can VM me if you ever need to talk, I'm always here :) :yeah:

Well I think that major depression seems to occur in generation after generation in some families, it is often used to denote the disorder, it can bring on feelings such as feeling of sadness, loneliness and guilt. Depression is a common but serious illness, and most who experience it need treatment to get better. Many people with a depressive illness never seek treatment. Depressive signs and symptoms are characterized not only by negative thoughts, moods, and behaviors but also by specific changes in bodily functions.

The way to get out of that pit is to realize that life is worth living. The world may very well be a difficult place, but other people have succeeded through times of depression. Those who succeeded didn't exactly overcome it on the first try. It may have taken dozens, perhaps hundreds or thousands of times - but what matters more than these numbers is that fact that they ploughed through regardless of the circumstances. They didn't care if they were depressed. That may seem ironic, but that is the truth. In order to overcome depression, the person just has to act like its not there (because really, it's not). Eventually, the person will just form the habit of behaving in a way that is ignores depression and then eventually they will have conquered it.

Why don't you talk with your Doctor....don't "completely" reveal your depression level, because he may view it as life threatening (which it obviously can be), and just ask him if there are SUPPLEMENTS - Vitamins - NOT A SCRIPT for an upper...that aid in depression.
My Uncle (who's an alcoholic) is taking Vitamin B-1 - or Thiamin, and it was suggested by his Doctor, when he was released from alcohol rehab.
Again.....NOT A PILL...but a supplement...to...as the name implies...supplement whatever "chemical imbalance" that may be affecting you.
I hope you'll be ok...I honestly do.
Good Luck!
