Do you think the government should be able to control what we do during sex? Do you think the sex laws in your area are fair? Unfair? Make no sense? And why.

Sodomy - Whoever commits the abominable and detestable crime against nature, either with mankind or with a beast, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than twenty years.

I understand the sentence if it was with an animal, but twenty years for Sodomy with another human? It doesn't make sense. I don't see how it's seen as against nature. Yeah nothing was even intended to go in there. But still, a law against it?

It's a stupid law, but it can't be enforced. It shouldn't be a law, but y'know, them Republicans.

Yeah, I also thought about that too. How would they even enforce it? ( Well they cant ) It's not like anybody follows them anyway.

If a law can be seen to be there to protect the weak, the disabled, the young, the animal world, well yes. Society has a right to decide what is acceptable.

Who says? How do you know that? If that's true why make it feel so good? Most people that say that wont apply the same thinking about oral sex. Was a penis "intended" to go in a mouth? Certainly not for the purpose of reproduction.

The sodomy laws aren't enforced at all. You wouldn't know unless someone confessed or you were hanging around there house at night or something. As long as it's on another consenting human in the privacy of your own home no one gives a fuck.

In a moral sense, no. It was not.

"Family values" politicians can make all the sex laws they want, but they're not enforceable without violating privacy laws. Not only are they incredibly stupid (why should we care where someone puts their penis?) but they're a waste of time and money. We have a mediocre economy and all sorts of environmental and social problems to solve, and everybody's making a fuss about what two consenting people do with their reproductive organs?

Are we that pathetic?

Laws are formed and taken down by what society needs and/or wants. As the dominant religion, Christianity is against sodomy so if enough Christians want it to be illegal for those reasons, although legislation is meant to have no religion involved, religion did get involved. Religion must still be involved to support the notion sodomy is illegal and bad. The part of being against nature I assume is because Christianity keeps saying in modern translations, that a man is meant to lie with a woman.

Many Christians and non-Christians also take this other stand, which is nonsense, that a penis is meant to go into the vagina, not into the arse, especially of another male. This argument goes as follows: the penis goes to the vagina to create proper sexual intercourse and pleasure. The pleasure partially arises from stimulation of Skene's gland. In males, Skene's gland does not exist, rather is homologue, prostate gland, exists, which is located in the arse. So the refute becomes: if the penis goes to the vagina for proper sexual pleasure, then men-men sex has to be anal in order for proper sexual pleasure to occur. Otherwise, it's a completely sexist nonsensical argument.

I wouldn't say laws are always based on society's views. We have limitations in place thanks to the Constitution, which protects our freedoms even when we don't want them to be protected. This can be said about the ACLU's protection of neo-Nazis from unlawful government discrimination or laws mandating prayer in schools.

I don't believe a majority of voters care at all about sodomy or other sex laws, I would expect a majority to consider it a waste. These horrible right-wing legislators waste ridiculous amounts of time and money making these unenforceable laws that are an embarrassment to the United States and its position as a "free" country. How gays, who make up 2% of the population, have sex should be of no concern to anybody.

As long as everyone is consenting and it doesn't infringe on someone else's freedom, they should be able to do what they want.
