Norton Help

I just installed a newer version of Norton Internet security on my moms laptop about a month ago and it won't open. I don't think it's running either. I can click on the shortcut or the icon in the start menu to my hearts content but it never opens. And I've tried the steps on the Norton website still without luck. Any suggestions on what I should do?
Also there's this other antivirus program popping up every five minutes telling me that I need to register, but that involves buying the full product and I don't even know where it came from.
Long story short, the antivirus software is fucked.

Reinstalling it sounds like a good idea. But Norton's absolutely terrible, I don't buy my antivirus software, I get free antivirus (and it's awesome).

The other antivirus program might be a virus itself and I'd get it checked out if you're sure you didn't install anything. (edit) That other program may be the virus that's causing all your Norton problems... google the name of the suspicious program, maybe they'll have something on it.

Edit:
I reinstalled Norton and it started working fine. The other program, Antimalware Doctor, was some sort of scam :\. I googled it and finally got rid of it. Thanks for your help.
