Is cheesecake a cake or a pie? I think it is a pie because it has a crust. What do y`all think?

It's a cake because, unlike pies, its crust is only at the bottom and side. There is no crust over the top of cheesecake.

I kind of thought it would go in Ramblings of the Wise because it was ment to be a debate.

Maybe Cheesepie sounded either uncatchy, disgusting, or a form of sexual innuendo.

It's definitely not a pastry. I don't think its a cake, otherwise it would have frosting and not a filling sort like the cheese. Plus it's not layered like a cake. It has the filling and a crust. Pie has a crust, but it has filling and a crust on top. Cheesecake rather I will agree with Bhan is a tart sounds more on point.

For example this is a lemon tart:

It has a crust and the filling on top, just like a cheesecake.

Its a cake. Definately. Cuz of the crust issue... And the fact that you just called it CheeseCAKE. If it was a pie, it wouldnt be called cheesecake. Whoever invented the name was brilliant. xD

I think it a pie because the crust. Cakes don't have a crust like Pies do, and even though the crust is only on the side and bottom there are a few pies that only have crust on the side and bottom.

personally, i think of it as a pie, because there are pies that don't have something over the top(pumpkin pie, anyone?) that and because sometimes you start out with a crust and just pour the filling in, yet there are versions with no sides whatsoever which require a special pan.
