If the average penis size is around 5.5 inches, why do so many people on here - who are still going through puberty - have penises much larger like 8 or 9 inches? Is this really the average size?

Yea, anything above...7 inches is basically a lie.
On internet forums a good rule of thumb to go by is round down about a half inch to an inch :P

Ya it all depends on your stage of growth, the other day my friend and I were checking eachother out and he is 16 and he was the same size as me. I am 7.75in. So age doesn't matter it.

Different surveys come up with slightly different average sizes, but the sizes that typically get quoted are 5.5", 5.8" and 6". Its also a known fact that in surveys where the men are actually measured by nurses or doctors the results are smaller than when men are asked to give their own measurement.

Now the fact that the average size is somewhere around 5.8" implies that loads of people will be smaller than that, and an equal number of people will be bigger than that, so it stands to reason that lots of guys will be bigger. However the normal distribution curve for penis sizes shows that probably 90% of men have erections in the range 5" - 7" with only about 5% smaller than that and 5% bigger.

The seemingly huge number of guys on forums like this (its just the same on gov) claiming to be above 7" suggests that either internet forums attract disproportionate numbers of hung guys, which frankly I dont believe, or that a lot of the claims people make are not true.

Im 16 and 8" but a little bigger on good days but there are some ppl who lie to make themselves seem bigger. But it just depends on the person. But your size is normal compared to other ppl.

P.S.-i started puberty pretty early(10 goin on 11).

Yeah I never understood the need to lie about it online. I'm not saying there aren't people who are 8"+, but frankly when I see that, I'm not always too sure I believe it. It's not that I'm judgmental or anything, it's just... The odds that someone has one that size are so miniscule it's not worth buying into it.

They're lying. Although there might be some guys out there with a huge penis, the average is called "average" for a reason. Not likely. I'm 6".
