Hi, this seems to be the place to post this kind of thing but feel free to move if not!
Ermm, well even though I feel better than I did this time last year and the year before that, my mum has told me that my doctor has offered anti-depressants to me, which I haven't got back to him about yet.

I hear there are side effects, but what kind of side effects? and also I have been more down recently, not really feeling like myself, but when I am okay and happy, I don't want the meds to make me act or think differently

Has anyone here had experience with them? Or have known anyone? It would be helpful to see what you think, thanks x

There are some side effects, yes, But more are more likely than others. When i started my first lot of antidepressants I didn't really feel any side effects although i was told it would be likely i would as it was my first time taking them. However when they increased my dosage of the same drug i did start to get some side effects. I got tired so much more easily, i became more anxious than i already am and i had constant headaches for the first few weeks. It happened again when i was switched over to another drug at the dose i first started with. I guess really it mostly depends on you, the drug and the dosage they give you at the time. If you feel as though you're having some side effects it may be a good idea to consult your doctor and go through things with them. Hope this helps

An important thing to remember if you are considering anti-depressants is to never quit them straight off. There are many people who will take them for a while, then decide they don't want them any more (for a variety of reasons) and stop them all together. It is important to make sure that if you do want to quit them, you should first talk to your doctor, and ease off them gradually.

im right now on paxil 20 ml and antidepressants really do help although it can take weeks for them to flow through your blood stream and start working but here are some side effects of ad paxil is also helpful if u have anxiety disorders(like me) and so it does NOT cause anxiety but if it does cause insomnia or drowsiness you can work with your doctor to take them at a diffrent time so that the side effects wear off and dont effect your day
Nausea
Insomnia
Anxiety
Restlessness
Decreased sex drive
Dizziness
Weight gain or loss
Tremors
Sweating
Sleepiness
Fatigue
Dry mouth
Diarrhea
Constipation
Headaches
hope this helps :)

You can always try them and if you don't Ike them stop ( with permission from your doctor ). You also need to give them a good month to decide if there reallyis a benefit. I've been taking Prozac since March and the only side effect I have from it is increased sex drive, which apparently is really weird, but at least it's not anything bad.

I hated them, I tried like 5 or 6 different kinds and they all were horrible.
Effexor made me dizzy and most of the other ones just zoned me out.
Anti depressants work for some, but I think they are better for people suffering from extreme depression.

I have. The side effects differ from medication to medication, but mine slowed down my metabolism, and made it really easy for me to gain weight, and I had to spend ALLOT more time in the gym to just keep myself from gaining weight. After I got off of it, my metabolism evened back out. :D
