I started self harming 5 years ago, when I was 13, and I can honestly say it is the biggest regret of my life. I used it as a way of feeling in control, because the scars made me feel safe; it reassured me that nobody could hurt me as much as I could hurt myself. But eventually, after a couple of years of getting help I realised the self harm had taken control of me. However, I now see a wonderful psychotherapist regularly. Although I still suffer from depression and sometimes relapse, getting help was the best thing I've ever done because it makes me see things in a different way.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is, if you haven't started self harming until recently, stop before it takes over your life.
Any questions are welcome :)
