Ok, so I have had my PS3 for about four months now. I bought it new, but it seems to have this problem... randomly, the signal to the tv will go out, and there will be no picture or sound. Meanwhile, the ps3 will stay on. I have tried different cords, which haven't helped. Is it possible that it is overheating (it is in a cabinet, but the doors are opened)? What are some possible fixes to this?

Check how well the cord is plugged into the TV. It's possible that it's coming lose.

You might find that swapping the cables with a friends cables to test will help. Its a good way to find out if its the cables or the console. It could be that where the cables go in that theyre worn either on the TV or the PS3. Best of luck!

make sure the cables are connected properly and there is no fraying in the cables. also check that your tv supports those type of cables.

The thing I found out about PS3's is that you make sure it can breathe maybe try taking it out of the cabinet, and trying new coax (cords) and make sure you have them plugged in correctly and see if that works. PS3's tend to get pretty hot.

How tight is the cabinet you have it in? I believe it is recommended that there should be at least 4 inches on each side of the PS3 for best cooling. I haven't had this problem with my PS3, so I can't tell you from experience.
If it continues, you could send it in to Sony, for free, as they have a one year warranty, and they'll either fix or replace it. Make sure you back everything up first.

The same thing happened with mine when I put it in a cabinet. Check the cords, make sure theres no dust in either ends of the plugs or plug-ins. Then if it keeps happening, take it out of the cabinet when you're using it. When mine began to overheat, the picture would freeze or completely go away and the sound would shut off too.
