Well if you're sedated, I assume you'll be given nitrous oxide (NO2) which is a gas. You essentially breathe normally whilst wearing a special mask and you'll feel like you're drifting into a deep sleep. You won't feel any pain whilst you're unconscious but will most likely feel some pain when you regain consciousness. You should be able to lessen that via the use of something like paracetamol / ibuprofen.

Also, you'll obviously notice that some of your teeth are missing when you wake up which is a bit of an interesting feeling :)

Well I had two teeth taken out on tuesday morning but I got a jag in my mouth and they took them out, but I have been gased before to have teeth taken out when I was younger, when you wake up from being unconcious you will feel light headed and it will feel weird and your mouth will be bleeding but that is the worst of it.

In the past few years I have heard several times getting gased can be very dangerous so if I were you, if you get the option get the numbing jag because you dont feel any pain at all.

When mine were taken out, I took an oral, liquid anesthetic. I was completely out, and have no memory of the event. Afterwards, there was some moderate bleeding for an hour or so, and moderate pain for a day. Didn't eat solids all that day, and took prescribed hydrocodone from the oral surgeon. Wasn't too bad, and much better than the pain of having too many teeth!

lucky you getting them taken out by a doctor. The dentist tried to take mine out without sedating me, just using those stupid needles to numb you, needles for some reason are on of my biggest fears so it hasn't went down so well so far. i've only gotten two taken out and i don't plan on getting the other two taken out.

Don't worry you will be fine.

Looking back it is not that bad especially with all the painkillers

I got them taken out three weeks ago.
All four of mine were impacted, and therefore, I HAD to get them taken out, otherwise it would cause medical issues.
I wanted to be sedated, but unfortunately the dentist would not allow it. It will take between one to three weeks to be completely healed. Your gums might feel weird, like some of it is like coming off, but really it isn't.
Stick with fluids and liquids! Avoid straws, rice, stuff that is hot, bread, and sodas.
Keep plenty of ice on the swollen area.
The dentist proscribed Vicodin and Penicillin.. so, depends on how bad your mouth will be.
Good luck none the less. Oh, and you should also ask for extra gauze, your mouth tends to bleed a lot afterward.

I don't get why people are afraid of needles? Is it the past haunting you people? They're incredibly small and even more so painless.

I haven't gotten my wisdom teeth removed (yet) but I was sedated for an endoscope and a colonoscopy recently. It wasn't really all that bad. If your worried about the sedation part that's not bad either. The only bad part about the sedation was the not being able to walk for like an hour afterward and the talking slow and crazy. It should be fine.

I had my 4 wisdom teeth out a year or so ago. I was out like a light and have no memory of anything. You see vids on youtube of people doing hilarious stuff and I'm glad I wasn't one of them. Supposedly, the nurse kept trying to get me to open my eyes and nudging me and I was like "Stop touching me, etc" You'll have a mouth of cotton for a while but I was out and about that night. I went to the movies, people are going to react differently with the swelling and such. You'll be just fine.

It has nothing to do with being afraid, at least not for me.
But, they are and can be painful.

i'm generally afraid of anything a dentist does because when i was a kid they screwed up an op. the needle they use to numb you honestly is huge it honestly is much bigger than neccessary as if they're just trying to make you crap yourself. and on gums the sting thing is even worse, then the dentist gets pliers and starts just yanking it out and you can hear the crunching snaping noise of the tooth *shudders* i'd rather be punched in the face than go through that.

i have to have mine out in about 2 years
my cousin had his out -- was put to sleep. he had no pain
john had to eat soup and soft food 4 a few days.
took some kind of pills -- don't know how long --
he really had no problems -- we have the same oral surgeon.
marc a freind of mine had his out - same as john was put 2 sleep
no problem for marc -- like soft foods.
really i not worried - going to be put under also.
