Rock Band 3 is coming out this fall, and they've taken "expert" to the extreme with the new "Pro mode", which I'll explain below. A new instrument has also been added: the keyboard, which means that the game will be "keyboard-heavy". Pro mode is split up into four difficulties (Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert) just like regular Rock Band, to help players get used to the new interface.
Pro mode details
Guitar/Bass — the Pro Mode guitar/bass controller has 102 buttons, making it possible to play real world chords and notes on Rock Band. The aim of this is to "teach" players aspects of real guitar playing. The new interface tells users what chords to play, or what hand movements (hammer-ons/pull-offs, ect.) to make, as well as where to put their hands on the fretboard. There is also a real Fender guitar that can be used in the game as well. Cost: $150 (plastic guitar)
Drums — Pro drums has 7 pads instead of four, after the addition of 3 cymbals. Tom-toms and cymbals are separated now, so playing the wrong one will count against you. Rolls are scored differently so that they aren't missed for small timing mistakes. Cost: $40 (for cymbal expansion pack)
Keyboard — Pro keyboard has 22 keys. These keys are split up into color zones. The note highway shifts from one zone to another, which helps with telling where your hand goes, and shows what notes in that zone to play (kind of like guitar). Cost: $80
Vocals — not much info yet, but vocal harmonies from The Beatles Rock Band have carried over into Rock Band 3.
No details on bundle packaging yet.
