pap test

so my CAS worker said that i need to get an annual physical done which will involve me getting a pap test. i have never felt so uncomfortable before. i have had one in the past and all i can remember is the pain i felt and how much it hurt days afterward. i am really neervous to get it done and i dunno if i want to. cancer does run in my family so maybe this will be good or not. umm,
another thing my doctor said she doesn't want me to come in until 14 days after my period. does anyone know why this is?

14 days after you're more fertile, and in the middle of the menstrual cycle. I'd suggest you do get it done because it's for the best because if you do have cancer and it does go undiagnosed the treatment available will be minimal.

When a Pap smear shows abnormalities, further testing or follow-up is needed. The next step depends on the results of the Pap smear, your previous history of Pap smears, and risk factors you may have for cervical cancer.

This may include:

* Colposcopy-directed biopsyColposcopy-directed biopsy
* An HPV test to check for the presence of the HPV virus types most likely to cause cancer

For minor cell changes, doctors usually recommend having a repeat Pap smear in 3-6 months.
