Lady Gaga's stirring up controversy yet again -- but this time all she did was play a little piano. A photo of the "Bad Romance" crooner seated at John Lennon's famous white Steinway recently hit the Web, and Beatles fans are up in arms.
John's son Sean Lennon posted the photo on Twitter with the caption: "With gaga at mom's house, she's belting on the white piano..." The instrument was a gift from The Beatles' frontman to Sean's mother, Yoko Ono, and it sits out in the open at Yoko's home.
In the pic, the singer wears typically skimpy Gaga-gear (a skintight body suit and thigh-high fishnets) while singing and tickling away at the keys. The image drew an outcry from some Beatles fans who considered Gaga unworthy of the iconic instrument.
One fan responded to Sean's Twitpic, saying, "WHY WOULD YOU LET LADY GAGA PLAY ON JOHN'S PIANO? I'm disappointed. >:("
To which the youngest Lennon replied, "pianos meant are to be played. Why is everyone so uptight? What should we do, lock it away in a dusty room? So judgmental..."
Sean eventually took the photo down and used his Twitter page to once again respond to the criticisms, saying, "Firstly, he gave that piano to my mother for her birthday, it is hers, secondly, he was not uptight the way you seem to be," adding, "Come on, lighten up...life's too short, there're enough real problems in the world...."
Lady Gaga may not have attained John Lennon's cult status yet, but she certainly knows how to play a piano. The pop star was classically trained in the instrument from the age of 4, to prodigal results. Gaga began giving concerts in elementary school and wrote her first keyboard ballad at 13 . The Lady continued her musical education through college, majoring in the subject at NYU.

I see nothing wrong with her doing it. If she was given consent to play the piano if she wished, she had every right to. It's not like she kicked it down to the ground or kicked part of it in. It's a very lovely piano, anyone can see that. And Sean is right, pianos are meant to be played.
I'm sure if his father was still alive today, he would gladly let her play it. If Beatles fans were really respectful of what Mr. Lennon owned, they would realize his possessions are not just to gather dust but also for others to use. This is a perfect example.

I don't see the big deal. Even though Lady Gaga is the new age, and I absolutely despise any sort of new age music, I have to say if she wants to be like a legend then let her try :P

I would like to disagree. Alicia Keys actually plays a damn fine piano on most of her songs. Though I'm not a big Keys fan, I still like to think she's better than Gaga by far. But you are right, the thing was meant to be played and we should have at least given her the opportunity.
However, one thing strikes me as odd. Over the past, say, 30 years since Lennon's death, Yoko Ono has been incredibly possessive of anything that belonged to John. Makes me wonder what Gaga did to be allowed to play his most prized item.

Oh my i forgot about alicia keys XD your right on that one!
And Lady Gaga used to live near john Lennons grave, and she would always talk to Yoko Ono about him as a child, so they know each other

Thats stupid...if she got permission to play it, why should she not play it?

The Beatles are great musical icons, in the same way as Mozart, there stuff should be treated with more respect. Lady Gaga is an exceptionally average pop star, not fit to clean Lennon's piano, let alone play it

No.
She was given permission to play it. She had the right to play it. You and all the other Beatles fanboys and girls need to stop giving a fuck about Gaga playing a Piano. Like Sean said, there are plenty of other issues plaguing the world, and yet people are in an uproar over a piano actually being used and not just sitting there, collecting dust.
Now, if she, let's say, smashing the keys of the piano in and screaming about terrorism, then you can complain. And Lady Gaga has become a great musical icon, or at least, is on her way up there.

This is the exact attitude that makes me hate most Beatles fans. It's like everything they touched was a religious icon, never to be trifled with. Lennon's piano is a piano, no matter how you look at it. Pianos are meant to be played. If she was given permission to play it, then that should be alright with anybody. But I suppose some raging fanboys just can't get over the fact that The Beatles are over, have been for over 40 years, and that their possessions should be in a church somewhere. Also remember, she was given permission by Yoko Ono, the WIFE of John Lennon if we've forgotten, to play the piano. So if it was alright with Yoko, why can't fans realize that it's simply a piano, eager and waiting, to be played?
I can, however, agree with you that they are musical icons, one of the biggest of the 20th century. Gaga has become famous in her own right too though, so you must respect her for that much in the least.

If anything, I think it's a sad thing to see an instrument collect dust and not get used.

Being a Beatles fan, I don't think John would care. At all. I mean, come on, it's a piano. Whatever happened to "All You Need Is Love" and "Give Peace a Chance"? I apologize on behalf of the other Beatles fans, they're lowering themselves to the level of Justin Bieber fans. Very disappointed.

Lennon's piano, is still a piano... It needs to be tuned, it needs to be played. Its not a table, its not a statue. Its a fine crafted instrument that just begs to be played. Even if it is Lady GaGa, and she is not the best pianist, these days...

I don't literally mean everyone but the point I was making was that it means less to famous now than in the 1960s
