I get a sore throat in the mornings from the cold (its winter here).

If you think it is bacterial. Take antibiotics and a Strepsils(or anything similar).

If you think it is viral: Add salt to a warm glass of water and gargle the water. It will irritate you a bit, but it will do the Job.

NEVER EVER TAKE SUGAR or CANDIES!

When you are sick, try to attain sugar from fruits. On the final note: Eat a tomato.

Take a drink (Not fizzy) to bed with you at night and take a drink every time you wake up, and in the morning make sure you have a warm drink to help warm up. I get that too a lot, its downright annoying.

You need to sum this up with the amazing Garlic.

Garlic is good but in some cases its an irritant for sore throats :P

Garlic enhances your white blood cells, and mostly the granulated leukocytes and lymphocytes production, and strengthen them to an extent. Usually, a flu takes 1 week to recover. I took a pinch of crushed garlic and a tooth paste(for the smell) and I am feeling better now.

Sometimes, when people say Sore throat, they don't become specific whether it is the throat or the tonsils. And that's a problem.

It sounds like you're just sleeping in an atmosphere with low humidity due to the low temperature. Only thing you can really do is get a humidifier and put it in your room.
