I have a million reasons, all that I think are foolish.

1: Religion (Jews mainly, perhaps others)
2: Culture (right of passage)
3: Bandwagon (most guys in the US are circumcised, only because parents thought that most people were circumcised)
4: Misinformation (Parents usually aren't informed of what circumcision really does to an infant, and are unaware of what the foreskin is and why it's there in the first place)
5: Money (Circumcision is still a common practice because doctors and companies make money off of it; doctors from the surgery itself, companies then buy the foreskins to grow skin for transplants and also for use in beauty products)
6: Hygeine (BS, by the way, it takes 5 seconds in the shower each morning to clean (just grab penis, retract foreskin, run water over glans, replace foreskin, release penis))
7: Torture (Circumcision started out as only removing the very tip of the foreskin, but a man named Kellogg (yes the same guy who made the cereal back in the 1900s) thought that removing the entire foreskin from children would prevent them from masturbating, due to lack of feeling and too little skin to move along the shaft. He himself was uncircumcised.)*

*Guess what, that's all true. Go to the wikipedia page of Kellogg (I forgot his first name) and it will reciprocate my words.

i was born in canada and we do not normally cut a boy baby penis as u do in the united states. most guys in canada r uncut. not really sure why u cut penis as much in the usa. i think it might b due to cleaner penis and less std. of course if u r jewish or muslim then u r cut because of religion reason. most of the middle east men and boys r cut because they r one of the 2 religion in that area. i really like being uncut, but i do think a cut penis is normally cleaner and i think looks better. both r ok.

For medical reasons - foreskin problems.
And for hygiene issues - it's easier to clean.

I think its like the saying "jump on the bandwagon" in society once a big trend like that happens we usually follow. I am cut myself but if i ever have a son i will leave him uncut, i dont think its unclean at all.

I'm not gonna get into the conspiracy theory portion, but regarding #7, after looking into the wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kellogg) I saw nothing about him recommending removing more than they were currently doing at the time. It DOES say that he recommended the surgery, but if you have a link to where yah got your information, that would be great. I agree and disagree with the hygiene part, but I won't get into it.

Just so yah know, most guys born in Canada today are uncut, but as for the entire population, it's still above 50%. Because the older generations were close to 70% cut and the guys that are 16 or 17 are around 50%ish cut, it's still technically the majority. But, it IS definitely heading to the opposite. The main reasons Americans do it so much is because they're used to it at this point, but even their numbers are declining a lot. I'm not sure why they do it more than other countries still, as Australia and even Britain used to do it A LOT. Australia was up near 90% I believe at one point, but they've both pretty much stopped it altogether unless it's medically necessary or for religious reasons. Why the US is behind on that, I'm not sure.

there was a long period where people thought that bacteria could easily form under the foreskin and doctors would just cut it off as soon as the baby was born unless you needed to wait 8 days after the birth and it is done to because in our bible is says that G-d asked Abraham to circumcise himself and his son to mark themselves as the chosen people. 20- 30 years ago they found that there was no easier for bacteria to grow when you are uncut. now the reason so many people do it now is because doctors were automatically cutting it off people felt more comfortable doing it especially because there are better ways of removing the skin. Now unless it is being done by a religious figure they try to use a laser which is faster and more precise.

Some people cite medical reasons, but I'm perfectly being uncut. No horrible infections yet...
