I believe we should be able to talk how we want and such. I want to be able to post my mind with out getting yelled at for it. First ammendment.

Hate bashing doesn't count though. I kind of learned that the hard way.
Speak how you want to say, but try to be as appropriate as possible when bitching someone out. Such as telling someone to "fuck off" wouldn't really be appropriate and would get you infracted. But if you try to explain why someone is bothering you without saying fuck off, you'll get some respect.

won't happen because there are rules and you can't just go up and tell someone's an idiot and do hate bashing and all that. that isn't allowed

You are entitled to your opinion, to a limit. You can`t go around bashing things and people on here, because it is a help site. Obviously, you have the intention on doing the opposite. If you want to bash things without rules, you are in the wrong place.

The first amendment doesn't guarantee you the right to not be offended or yelled at for anything.

Then make your own site with your own rules and how you want to do things. But while you are here you will follow our rules or get banned. Simple as that.
Also, the first amendment only applies to Congress, not private web forums.

well you can but in certain rules, everything has to have limits and if you disrespect them u get infraction (in virtual teen) like once they freeze my account for a whole week because i did a stupid thing that nobody care about.

Poor kid...you shouldn't make these kind of posts because users tend to pounce lol
But when you registered, you agreed to our terms of service and you have a responsibility to follow the rules here.
You can't always talk how you want and sometimes we prefer you not post your mind (because were not sure what kind of things you're thinking about in there...lol).
Just follow the rules and you will be fine.

Maybe I'm missing the point here, but I've looked up Matt's posts and dont see that he's been doing any bashing or breaking a load of rules. I'm guessing his question has come from the fact that he's posted something within the site rules that has caused other members to give him possibly homophobic abuse. If that's the case then I agree with him that you should be able to post on here without getting abuse from people who dont have the same sexuality, problems, race, disability or whatever. Hard to guarantee that in practice though.

You don't always see problems in members if youre not a staff member because we delete/edit things that members shouldn't see :P.
Im sure that there are reasons that prompted him to create this thread.

Or you could say fuck off in an interesting way and confuse the person into thinking that you haven't just told them to fuck off. Works every time... :)
No seriously though, it's like one of the most important rules here. Why would it be changed?

Was the only one this sounded kinda rude to?
And the site has to have some restrictions becaue without it the site would just go crazy and probably have to get shut down :(

First amendment? Sorry bub, this here an international site, and that's rule stuck for those who are beyond the pond. Meaning: There is no first amendment around VT.
If you want to cross the limit, then go ahead mate. But that will likely get your arse banned, or negatively rep-ed, or whatever suits the beholder.

Though this has been pointed out, the First Amendment is part of the US Constitution's Bill of Rights. That document applies only to the US Government (and, to a lesser extent, government-funded or -affiliated entities). We are a private site, and have absolutely no responsibility to abide by the Constitution. We must merely follow all applicable laws (generally, federal laws and the state law of the state in which our server resides). Allowing you to say whatever you want is not one of those laws.
If you have a more specific complaint about something we've prevented you from saying, please feel free to bring it up with us (privately, please). I won't promise it'll change, though, as we generally have good reasons for moderating as we do.

Well, whether it sounds rude or not, it's true.
He can say whatever he wants, and should expect certain consequences when he chooses to do so. That is of course, if he says something inflammatory, or disrespectful, or against the site's regulations, which aren't that hard to abide by.

Want a quick end? :)
The First Amendment does not cover "hate speech" or "fighting words." These words are quite often prohibited and can be enforced despite "freedom of speech." Why? Because freedom of speech is a vague topic. It's like being able to be arrested because your "freedom of speech" is free and allows you to tell "FIRE" in a crowded theater. Your constitutional reference is hereby null and void. :D
Also, want to say what you like? Believe me, I'd enjoy that, but I'd end up bashing half of VT into tears or quitting. Want contact info? Add it to your profile and say "Hey, add me on MSN, okay? I'd love to chat sometime!" It's not all that hard, nor is it worth complaining about.
And what's so hard with VT rules? You can cuss and express yourself VERY openly, compared to a lot of places, VT is quite relaxed on these rules.

I don't find it rude at all. The rules here are very simple. Break them and expect consequences. He said the truth. I would expect nothing less than the truth. The rules are the structure of the site. If there was a lot more leniency I'm sure there would be much havoc. Which would cause more unnecessary work for staff. If there is a problem you PM a staff member. nuff said.
