Promises have been made, a million times a day
Promises for people, in a million different ways
I have promised you, and you have promised me
That every single promise, would keep us safe you see

Five times over, I’ve wondered for the truth
Five times over, I’ve needed more than proof
To understand a promise, you need one of your own
Something to hold onto, when your heart feels like a stone

A promise can be many, a promise can be one
But when you make a promise, remember it is done
You can't go back deep in time and change what you have said
Because a promise always keeps, to your mind's little bed

Five times over, I’ve seen them go
Five times over, I’ll pretend to know
That a promise is more fragile, than a strand of hair
Able to be broken, with only too much air

We wish we knew what made it so
The things that make a promise grow
Such a bond that holds us strong
What could make a promise wrong?

Five times over, I’ve seen them break
Five times over, I’ve felt the ache
It splits apart your heart so whole
You feel as though you’ve lost your soul

Promises are beautiful when held beneath the light
A love can be so shaken if you don’t treat them just right
Promises for lovers, and promises for friends
Are all the same as promises, kept until the end

Five times over, you've promised me
Five times over, you've made me believe
Five times over, you've promised lies
Five times over, you've made me cry

Promises are made,
Five times over,
Each and every day.
