I can't drive yet, but a lot of my friends learned to drive the moment they turned 16. I'm turning 16 next month but I'm not planning to learn how to drive. my brother's 17, can't drive either
anyways....those of you that can drive...what age did you learn how to drive?
in PA, when you turn 16 you can get a driver's permit. not sure about other states

Legally.... not yet.
I can get my temps (Kentucky) when I'm 16, and the day of my birthday I will be getting my license.
My mom let me drive a rental Cadillac STS around the building where my dad works a few months ago though.

In Michigan you can take classes at 14 years and 8 months but cannot take the second course until you are 16. So I haven't started yet.

Still learning. I don't like driving at all though. I'm sure I have a phobia of driving. I need to finish my drive times and shit before October still, don't know how the hell I can with being scared that I'm about to burst into flames while in a car.

I could get my permit today, but I'm probably not going to until the end of the month.
I'm in PA too.

I've driven on my property on and off since I was probably 13, just pulling around our driveway (which is large) and down on our trails to bring stuff to my parents and stuff.
I got my permit on my birthday, in December, and I'm taking my license road test on July 15th.
I live in New York, by the way.

At this age. I have my permit, but on narrow roads, I feel like I'm going to hit something, lol. I can't get my license on my birthday anyway because made my wait for false reasons. But I don't care since I'm still a nubcake at driving. :D

I learned to drive fall of '07 (Driver's Ed) while I was 16. I then learned the proper way to drive (from my parents, my instructor sucked) in spring '08, while I was 17. I got my permit Dec 31st, 2007 and my licence spring 2008, both being while I was 17. I passed on my first try too. :)

I'm old enough to drive now, but I have yet to learn how to. As I have no need to learn at this point in my life, I think it'll be awhile before I do. I'm not really interested in learning or getting a license right now anyway.

I've had my permit since I was 15 1/2 and I'm going to try and finish my drive times and stuff so I can try to get my license by the end of the summer. I'm just really afraid to do the drive times and do the test so I don't know how to get over that. :/ (Anxiety issues.)

I've been able to drive (as in operate a manual transmission vehicle pretty safely) since I was 13. I think it helped me a lot with my driving now as I learned about car handling / how to deal with skids and rolls before I got out on the road. I started to learn on the highways (public roads) when I was 17 and took my test four months later. Have now held my full licence for 1.5 years. Currently drive to roadcraft (police car handling manual, google it) standard-ish and am hoping to actually pass an advanced test pretty soon.

My dad had me driving behind the wheel ever since I could remember.
So I am guessing I was driving on his lap at the age of 6 probably.
I started using the pedals on my own when I got my drivers permit which was when I was 15 but even then it really wasn't a "learning" process.
I argue that you don't "learn" to drive really...its kind of already naturally instilled in you since you have observed for so long. You really already have most skills, you just need to execute on your own

The main thing that you learn, or should learn, is your ability to perceive hazards and judge road conditions. Most people never do and become idiot drivers who should never have been given a driving licence in the first place.
So whilst yes most people are able to actually operate the car, nobody has a high level of hazard perception naturally instilled in them imho. It takes time and near misses to learn how to avid being a twat.

That's why I'm all for getting kids in motorcycles, shifter karts, and the like at a young age. I'm a "bad driver" but I'm never out of control or close to putting anyone in harm. I know how to handle a car and intend to do so. How else are we expected to stay awake if driving isn't fun?

Here in the UK, you have to be 17 to drive. I turned 17 in March, but i've only just booked my first driving lesson, which is happening this Monday! Cant wait!.
Hopefully that means I will have a licence to drive before the end of 2010. Once i've passed, then I will decide if I want to get a car or not. They are very expensive, and sometimes its easier to get the bus and train as I live so close to London.
When I went to America, I was very surprised to see how young some of the drivers looked!

I'm only 14 right now but I still know how to drive. I do derby races with my sister's boyfriend. He has them in his back yard (Which is huge) and everyone in the block comes to watch. And I've driven a few times to move my sister's car out of the driveway so my mom could get out, so I have to drive it around the block.

I'm getting my license within the next couple weeks. I could have gotten it a few months ago but I'm not in any real hurry. I have friends who can drive so if I REALLY need to get somewhere, they'll help me out. But on the other hand I know a lot of people who can't drive yet so that's why I don't really care. I don't want to drive just to say I can drive, and that's what a majority of the ones (who do drive where I am) are like. But I learned how to drive when I was 15 and a half, because that's when I got my permit. I'd driven illegally before then but I wasn't really learning much, haha.
