View Full Version : Do you believe in afterlife?

I know many people and many religions believe in afterlife, or going to hell or heaven but, I think I don't. Maybe when we die, that's all. Maybe we just... die. Nothing more. Why does there have to be something "after"? Why can't we concieve the idea of just not-existing?

no I don't believe in afterlife. well we don't know because when we die, we won't be able to tell other people if there IS one right? and other people that are dead can't either.

So... you don't believe in ghosts.

First describe what you mean by life after death? As it turns out ones body becomes one with the universe once again. But consciously is a different story entirely. The idea of just not existing is once again ludicrous physically as of course your body will enter a new life stage where as your mind your consciousness is once again a different story

I do not, there is no "after"life, only the next life.
So... you don't believe in ghosts.
I do, actually.
Our bodies are just external shells, and when we leave them permanently (permanent, vs. out of body experiences) we usually find another one
Once in awhile the mind misses the next body and would be seen as a ghost.
Before anyone gives me the "but Earth's population is growing", don't be so close-minded to honestly think that humans are the only intelligent lifeform in our universe.
edit: before flame, no i have no basis for this belief, and I admit that.

No, I don't believe there is an afterlife nor do I believe that ghosts exist. I do not believe in a soul, physical or metaphorical. I think that this is our one and only life. Once we die, we cease to be conscious.

OK, I mean, being concious that you exist.

Define conscious and spell it correctly.

Sorry, I'm not a native English speaker so I make some mistakes with words sometimes.
And by conscious I mean "having an intentional idea of one's existence". Is that accurate enough?

don't make me flog you
if you can clearly understand what he's trying to say
then attacking him over his spelling is a weak and pathetic defense
You're debating over an idea, a concept, a belief
not spelling.

I do not believe in the afterlife nor ghosts for two reasons. First, there is no evidence of ghosts actually existing that can be empirically verified by people who do not accept the notion of supernatural and ghosts. I say this because it seems those who do believe in the supernatural are the only ones who see the supernatural beings, and much of it occurs in environments where there is little clarity to see. By this logic, there should also be a supernatural and ghosts of non-humans that people who do not accept it should be able to see. Second, once someone or something dies and is no longer consciously there, it's not coming back. I believe in this world, we have only one life and no more.

I don't believe in the afterlife, nor I don't believe that reincarnation exists. But, I have to take my chances, since no one here has died and has been born again (maybe born again as a cow? I don't really know) and no one cannot know until they have experienced it themselves.

So what's next? What happens to your mind? Your consciousness?
Oooooh here's an idea: What if we are destined to live the same life again and again without realising it? Like maybe I have already typed this a thousand times in another reality?

Not the same life, another life.
we're not predestined to do shit, that contradicts free-will, but we're not going to reach any "end", we'll just come back as someone else.

We will have different ideas on this.In Buddhism,we believe next existences. That is,we continue to live not only in human forms but also in animal,ghost-like and angel forms.I haven't study much about Christianity but I think Christians believe that after death, man becomes dust and is resurrected on the Judgement Day.And God decides who will go to Heaven and who to Hell.(Please tell me if what I know is wrong.I am a Buddhist.)
Thanks shattered wings, for giving me an answer about a question I have thought for long. You can be right, men is not the only intelligent creature in the universe.I am awakened by this.
In my opinion, afterlife does exist. It is given as a chance to do what we want. But secretly in my mind,I wish there is no such thing because I don't want to face problems again.I hope there is Heaven after death.

Grass is not aware of it's existence, trees do not think about their situation, and certain insects do not have the slightest recollection of what they have done simply what instinct tells them to do next. Many religions, culture's, and theories believe in an afterlife where the spirit returns to the planet or the universe in which it came and sometimes they believe it comes back in the form of another organism. An afterlife of sorts. Are they concsiously aware of this? No.
Your definition is invalid.

Do you believe the mind and body are the same OR that the mind is within the body OR neither?
I do not believe in the concept of the mind as it's akin to believing in one's soul or spirit, which I consider to be a box of air (i.e. nothing). One consciousness however I do believe in and I believe this is a result of the brain. When one dies, if the brain is dead, then you're no longer conscious.
Oooooh here's an idea: What if we are destined to live the same life again and again without realising it? Like maybe I have already typed this a thousand times in another reality?
Another idea would be to have some basis for what you're asserting.
