Is that euros or pounds? Looks fairly good, spend a good 70 euros, 50 pounds, you could get a better one, I don't know what your budget is though.

whoa those are even more expensive than the ordinary dual-cores.

They use 40% of the power, and process more efficiently, they cost over 1k right now, actually there's only one core 2 extreme. The less expensive version is core 2 duo, they should drop in price quite a bit by the time next Christmas comes around, almost by half, then even cheaper cuz of the Christmas sale, of coruse iI need to get a high end mobo for that, I'll have to replace my ram with ddr2, and my video card with a good 512mb pci express. Anyone wanna buy some parts off me? lol

Wow.. i was wrting a reply to this a feww hours ago on my laptop and got a BSOD!! then nothing... i found out it was the ram so i took that out and its ok again now (running on built-in memory)
anyway.. my budget is £50 max inc. vat. and i want 3 ram slots, AGP grapics usb 2.0 SATA sand socked 754 AMD.
i already have an AMD Sempron 2800+ so im limited to that socket.
thanks guys, ill keep looking :)
my dad thinks my laptop is still broken so i cam just put the crapped ram back in and hope he gets me a new one :) cos this is 4 years old now :) lol

sempron? thats the worst proccessor of AMD, though i 'm using it myself too because i'm broke, get an intel :D
50 pounds, not much to get a fairly decent motherboard.
Aηdy
September 16th, 2006, 03:26 PM
i would never EVER get an intel, my sempron is pleanty quick enough for the internet lol, my computer is more about looks, plus i have 1.25GB ram... so yeah lol

too much rams don't help much if your prcessor isn't able to send and intake enough data. i perfer a computer with at least 3.0 gigahertz i'm tired of the 2.0's
anyways why not buy from the u.s.? pounds is worth more here. tigerdirect has some good prices though i don't trust their rebates.

I always get stuff from tiger, always get the rebate, got this dvd drive for 10 bucks, and huge deals on everything I bought basically.

stuff from america must be cheaper to people in europe, i'm jealous that their currency is worth more.

How does that work? having a credit card in £ and buying in $? plus wouldnt the shipping be alot more?
Elscire
September 17th, 2006, 12:30 PM
you'll be paying overseas shipping like the same way i get my gundams from japan, it shouldn't be much if its just the motherboard, but if its a computer yea i say about $30-$40 depending. just a mother board maybe around $20

what exsactly do you plan on doing with your motherboard. Gaming, movie editing, or just surfin the web. That would dictate what mobo you get along with one that fits your processor's socket type.

On that computer, mainly internet, messaging, occasional gaming such as games like The Sims 2 or flight simulator, i will put vista on it when i get a copy, the 754 boards support 64-Bit Processors.
I looked on newegg and they are really cheap, but they dont ship to the UK, and when i went to tigerdirect and i selected UK, it redirected me to their sister site calles Misco, and they are more expensive, so does anyone else know good american sites that shup to the uk?

Gigabyte is a good manufacturer. My heatsink and i-RAM are made by them. Can't comment on their motherboards though. Seems like your staying toward the lower end of things. If thats the max your budget permits I suggest saving up some more and get an ASUS board that has PCI-E, 4 RAM slots, and a socket 939.

asus....the reason my old comp died was because something burned out in the graphics pci slot. now its just sitting junk in my closet.

My last three motherboards have all been ASUS and i work my computer pretty darn hard when i get a new part :P . If i do a major change like motherboard i put it under a completely full load for a good three days to make sure everything is perfect and even after that my ASUS boards have held up. Also, my fileserver is running on a really old ASUS board.

I would like that, infact i would love that, but i only use it for surfing the web 99% of the time, the RAM, graphics card, processor, everything is all less than a year old.
So i just want a cheap-ish board with socket 754, 3 ram slots, agp graphics, SATA and thats about it.
Ive got about 3 boards in my cupboard, all broken lol, one good one, its an MSI one, brilliand board, wont power on now :(
I do have £100 so i could push the buget to £65 perhaps (got to save some to go to the movies with a special someone ;) )
But for now i shall keep looking at what i can get, thanks for all the input guys :)

3 slots? They come with 2 or 4 generally.

There are a few of the cheaper ones that have 3 slots, my current one has 3.

If you need a fan get this one, although it's rather loud, just designed to instantly cool basically, so you'll need a fan controller.

You know you dont need those right? Just plug in the psu but keep the switch on it off and make sure your touching a piece of unpainted metal on the case for most of the time.

September 20th, 2006, 10:40 PM
Yes, which is rather annoying when you're installing a processor, ram, any pci or agp card, plugging everything into the motherboard, and putting the jumpers on, that's what I did when I built this, and lemme tell you, it's no picnic.
Skhorpion
September 20th, 2006, 10:42 PM
You dont have to touch it the whole time.... just periodicly touch it to neutralize yourself.

That only works 100% of the time if you're naked, your clothes rubbing produces a lot of static, and you can pick it up from people and objects around you.

I think it will be better to have it on, i have broken a couple of things because of static so i dont want to break anything else lol :P
