Well, I decided to draw my boyfriend, Darnell, as manga. He is an elf, because all of the fact that all of his characters in the video games he plays are either knights or elves, which is pretty awesome, in my opinion. Anyways, I'd love any comments and criticism, thanks!

Drawn with:
-Pencil
-Faber-Castell Inking Pens
-Copic Ciao Markers

Edited with:
-Corel Photo-Paint X3

P.S. I'm aware of the fact that his stance is slightly awkward and the fact that the arm on the right side of the picture seems to be sort of shorter than the other one... Maybe not? Maybe it's just the shield that distorts the perspective...

EDIT: Lol, there were complaints about colour... Is this version any better? ........ Also, I tried to fix the shading issues with adjustments to the brightness and contrast settings, but I don't think it helped any...

Pretty good. I like the colors.
The neck seems a little long though, and you need to work on shadows and shading. There's no certain area that light is coming from, it looks like he has fifty million lamps on him.
Keep Drawing. =3

Thanks! The shading looked better before I scanned it... Scanners murder the details and colours in drawings. Lol. Also, the light was supposed to be coming from the front, which could explain some of the lack of shading.

Maybe consider adding a shadow to the background?
Nothing detailed, just a rough shadow, if the shading is going to be lighten by a gimped scanner, shadows can add alot of depth.

The green makes me think of Link from The Legend of Zelda. My only qualm is that, speaking as a fencer here, holding two blades -and- a shield is rather awkward and impractical. If you're going to keep the shield in future drawings, I think a round, wooden one would be more fitting for an elven character.

Hmm, I agree, I'll keep that in mind for the future. Thanks! :)

Hmm... The green does kinda seem like Link, but the colour blends in better in the woods, where the leaves are... Oh, I don't know... .... Green? Lol, anyways, I agree that the shield makes the whole picture look EXTREMELY awkward, but I was asked to include it in the picture. Thanks for the comment.

I think this is much better than your last, but I agree with Tim, the shield ruins it. I would have actually left the shield, and gave him one weapon instead of two. -shrugs-

Kudos.

Like I mentioned earlier... I was asked to include the shield, and two swords are Darnell's favorite weapon(s) of choice... Lol, it's not exactly my preference, either... Because it just makes the picture seem too cluttered, in my opinion. Like, as far as I'm concerned, it would look fine if it were just the two swords, but the shield makes it seem awkward. :(

P.S. Thanks for the comment! :)

It's still got the thing with the shield and weapon in the same hand.

... Yeah, I'm well aware of that. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. ;) I'm sorry to mention that I can't really do a whole lot to fix something like that on my computer. I made all of the possible adjustments without causing damage to the picture--be that a lack the image quality of the picture or just unwanted mistakes, due to the fact that I'm not very good at drawing with my tablet.

Super! That's really cool, did you take art lessons or just learn on your own?

Thank you! :) No, I've never taken any art lessons, I've just always had an interest in art, and I've been drawing for as long as I could hold a pencil... Basically, I guess it's just the endless hours of practice, because I love drawing? It's just one of those "practice makes perfect" sort of things, though I'm far from perfect. Lol. :P

I like the green one. It reminds me of Link from Legend of Zelda a bit. And the fact that your boyfriend and I share the same first name made me smile a bit.

Thank you for the comment, and, I think it's completely awesome that you two share the same first name. Lol. :P By the way, the picture wasn't really supposed to resemble Link any, it just sort of happened, I guess...

I think the green is what reminded me of Link. When I look at the blue one I don't think of Link right away like I did with the green.

Lol, yeah, I understand... Maybe it'd look more like Link if he was wearing a hat like that one that Link wears?

Ahum, I'm not sure we speak of the same problem, then :). What I was trying to say is that the overall shading lacks contrast (which the scanner may have butchered), but also is not properly placed. This is that wrong placement that makes the shield look so flat, for example.

When scanning pencil artwork, don't hesitate to switch away from automatic mode and use manual settings for your scanner - I often find that when left in auto mode, the scanner wrongly shifts the brightness/contrast/color balance, which ruins my drawings.

Still a nice job anyway :). You should consider rescanning the picture with neutral settings, and see if you get a better result.

I'd re-scan the picture and edit the settings, but I gave it to my boyfriend as a gift... Also, the shield was supposed to be flat, so the shading can't be all that bad, can it? [Lol, I guess it easily could be... My scanner is horrible Dx ... But still better than uploading photos from my cell phone, as I had done prior to acquiring it...] Also, the picture was primarily coloured with Copic Markers, I only used a pencil when drawing the original lines, which were then outlined in pen. :)
