I wasn't really aiming for the GL one to look specificlly like Hal or Kyle. I figured since there are thousands of GLs I could just draw a character off the top of my head and give him the uniform.

You're missing the point of painting. You're drawing thin precise lines and trying to color them in, where as painting involves blocking in the general shapes and adding detail through highlights and shadows.

I drew the lines after I painted

You're also missing the point of his statement. Your art is not good. You lack technical skill and creativity.

If we all smile and pretend you're awesome you'll get no where in life.

Constructive criticism and insulting someone are two very different things.

My post was constructive. You're not supposed to have lines like that in painting.

Both posts were constructive. I bolded the cases where they are.

I think reminding someone that they "lack" something isn't really helpful in anyway. I think Des' approach was "constructive", because he pointed the flaw in the image and not the person's abilities.

I personally like the 1st and the 3rd.

Thank you. And that's basicly how I felt. Being told I can't do something doesn't help at all. If it was followed by "Try this next time..." then it would have been constructive.

Try this next time:
Draw your own conclusions.
If I say that you lack technical skill, it means you need to practice technical skill. Easy. If I say you lack creativity, then you need to be more creative. Not easy.

Let us assume that he did. But the problems comes where? The problem comes when they don't know on how to improve or practice those two elements.

I like the concept and just adding detail through highlights and shadows.
