View Full Version : Raise the post requirment for diary ownership/moderators

It seems kind of skewed that you qualify for diary ownership after 50 posts given that the pm limit is 100 posts. (This thread is not questioning that, I hope it wont be taken off topic in that direction.) As diary moderators cant be blocked in ignore lists etc. this is a privilege that should be higher, in my opinion, than the pm limit.

This is facinating. I think the diary limit should go to 250 posts.

Diaries are a pretty big responsibility... Maybe it should be 500?

That works also. I just didn`t want to look like a total dick to less than 500 post noobz by posting it.

They'll get over it, eventually. I didn't even know about diaries until I was near 500 posts.

500 may be a bit high, some of the current staff have been appointed on lower post counts than that. 200 or 250 would seem reasonable to me.

Maybe it shouldn't be based on post counts then.
What if you applied for a diary like you do for a staff position? Although it would make it more difficult...

HELL lets just say 2500 posts! :P
Nah... 200 should do.

That's a good point.
I'd say 250 is reasonable.

I'd say 200 posts and a minimum of 3 months membership

Easy for you to say, being only 18 past 2500 lol. But for the 3 month limit, shouldn`t it be six months, since you can`t change your username until after 6 months?

Click on the picture in my signature, it takes you to my diary. A diary is basically a member forum where they post whatever they want.

I agree with Skyler, changing the joined time to 6 month might be a good idea. At least then they are allowed to do a few things at the 6 month mark.

I say that 250 posts should be the minimum. But 6 months membership is too long, id say that 3 months is good.

whats that got to do with anything
thats the same for everyone
admins included if they follow what they made
username change time is a daft thing to do off
i like 3 months idea
90 days,
like social groups
and 250 posts

This thread kind of raises a good point. Our limits/requirements for certain things really don't make sense at times (often because they were put into place at different times. I feel like for the sake of clarity for newer members we should streamline it to the best we can.
Almost like to two separate groups - probationary and full privileges - set by reasonable and fair limits.

250 posts is good. and a 3 month membership. 50 is too low

I kind of like the probationary/full privilege membership. But how would you become one or the other?

If diaries were more popular I'd say 250 and 3 months, but honestly there isn't a rush in people requesting them so 100 posts(same as pm limit) seems fair to me.

I like this, it sounds like the most reasonable to me.

It took me forever to get past 250 posts and it does for a fair number of other people who are responsible on this site. I think raising the limit to 100 posts and 2 or 3 months of membership might be a fair idea worth implementing.

I agree that it should be raised, maybe its something the seniors can look into because diaries have really lost their exclusivity and it seems like everybody and dey mama has a diary now :P

I was just wondering if diary owners still needed 50 posts to become a owner?
if so, i think it should be changed to 100, so as to be sure that the owners may be able to PM things.

There was a fair bit of discussion about this in my suggestion thread here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77118).

What would a diary owner need to PM about?

idk, but it seems a little unfair that to own a diary you only need 50 posts, but to PM you need 100. If you are responsible enough to own an entire diary, but not responsible enough to PM, then there is something wrong with that. Im just saying

If it were up to me it'd be 1000 because newbie diaries never seem to last. But hey, that's just my two cents.

Merged the threads to make things easier.
The more I think about it the less it seems to matter to me. Most people don't request diaries until after they have 100 posts and newer members rarely even post in them. If there were a huge surge in people wanting diaries then putting a more strict limit on who can own them would make sense but there really isn't and there's no sense doing it. Also by looking at the current waiting list anyone under 100 posts will have it by the time their diary is made.

Well, i see your point, but if as you said, say 10 new members all wanted diaries, what would you?

If we had a problem with like 10 under 100 posts users wanting a diary then I'd think we'd have to put a limit on it so the waiting list won't be too big and older member have more of a chance to get a diary.

The thing is a diary is public. PM's are not.
I would have no problem with someone who has 15 posts having a diary because you can see what they are doing. In fact you could make a better judgement of a member by their diary and what they post in it.
