View Full Version : Questions about Adderall XR

My bro is perscribed to take 1 capsule of Adderall every morning. The dosage is 30 mg and the medication says 'Adderall XR' on it. I know that he has a lil ADD and thats why he takes it - to keep him focused and more alert.
Last night, I was taking some narcotics (perscribed to me for my tooth pains) and I took a sleeping pill. After doig so, I realized that I might have had to go to skool today (which thankfully I didn't) so I asked my bro if I could have one of his Adderall to take in the morning so I would not be hungover from the sleeping pill and totally messed up from the narcs. He made a big deal out of it and said 'uhhh I dunno, thats some powerful medichine and... jus... jus no... i dont think its a good idea'. I kept asking him why not and he kept saying the same thing - that its for ppl with ADD, not for ppl without ADD. My reason for wanting one pill was so that I would be awake and focused for skool. His reason was 'not a good idea'.

So, on that note, I have some questions about Adderall XR.

- Is the XR more powerful (besides the fact that its extended release)?
- What does Adderall actually do (besides making one more alert)?
- I don't have ADD or ADHD. What negative effects could Adderall (30 mg) have on me?
- Could I have any positive effects (for school) if I take 30 mg of Adderall?

Someone that knows this medichine, please please please answer. I want to know if I will be able to take it tomorrow for school (because it will be my first day going back in a while and for 1 and 1/2 weeks Ive been on narcs and have been 'out of it' a little.)

I actually take this medicine. Let me go check my dosage.... ok curretnly i take a 15 mg Adderall XR capsul every morning, and then when i get home from school i take a 25 mg fast acting pill. I actually lowered my dosage recently because it was pissing me off to much.

Basically what it does is it makes you a more focused person, and kind of turns you off to external stimuli. For example you'll be talking with you friends, one of them will say something and everyone will laugh. Under normal circumstances youd laugh too, but with the medicine you'd just stand there and not think its funny. It kinda ruins your social life I guess cuz you never wanna do anything with anyone, and nothing you do makes you happy or sad or humorous etc.

I think it only works for people perscribed to it, because ADD and ADHD are more complex than just not being able to concentrate. I suggest you take some caffein pills like Viviran. its perscribed for a reason, so i could only imagine it having an adverse reaction on those who its not meant for

i just always think, dont take whatever you're not prescribed, if it DID make you more alert, it would be able for purchase rite?!

Hmmm... Interesting, I'm still curious as to how this medication would affect someone that doesn't have ADD/ADHD - even though it's been months :P

Eh, this is a rather old topic anyway...

Oh...your right :/

My sister took it for a little while to loose some weight, because it makes you totally loose your appetite, and my dad takes it to stay awake. I guess maybe you could talk to a doctor about it.

i am on this lovely little magic drug. its helped me a lot with school but with its own costs

~it kills ur appetite
~if you take too much or if you start out on too much it causes elevated heart rate, higher alertness, profucious sweating, constant jaw clenching, biting of the front lips,
~it also kills your labido
~muscles cramp easier
~caffiene will multiply the effects
~dry mouth

those are that vast majority of what happens. adderol genericaly is methanphetamine with methanphetamine salts, in essence it is a small dosage of speed. it was originaly designed for weight loss but its use as an add/adhd drug were soon noted. i like it. like i said its helped me quiet a bit. one other thing is when mixed with caffien it can create some side effects similar to that of OCD

Yeah, now that I think back on that day, I did take the Adderall expecting to get more focused. Unfortunately, it made me uncomfortable and slightly drowsy, although since my body was wide awake and my brain kind of wasn't, I couldn't get any rest that day because of the twitching and whatnot. It was basically like I had malaise (an uncomfortable feeling or uneasiness accompanied by a vague feeling of tiredness).
