What kind of wireless card do you have? Is it G or N?

Personally I would go for any wireless router with wireless N, the d-link one we have is this one:

http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=Product_C&childpagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLProductCarousel&cid=1197379239385&p=1197318962342&packedargs=ParentPageID%3D1197318962321%26TopLevelPageProduct%3DConsumer%26local e%3D1195806691854%26packedargs%3DProductParentID%253D1195808621247&pagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLWrapper

It hasnt had any problems at all and was really worth the money we paid for it. You could try searching on ebay as they tend to sell them new and cheaper than other computer shops.

It is the DIR-600

If it was betwen those two you mentioned I would go for the Linksys purely because it supports wireless N. It should be backwards compatible too.

The D-link one I mentioned is fully backwards compatible with wireless G so if your network card is either G or N it wont matter so much but at least in the future you will have a wireless N router for any newer gear you get :)

Theyre only around 17-20 quid.

Look up your laptop on line. Otherwise I'm not sure.

The reason I ask is that N connections are faster than G's. However to get an N connection requires both an N router and an N card. Buying the N router if you don't have an N card isn't as helpful. If they're about the same price, go with the N, this way, if you have an N card or upgrade to a computer with one, you'll be set.

Im pretty sure it is this:

Control Panel > Device manager > Network Adapters > Right click the Atheros one and click properties > Advanced and I am sure it comes under that somewhere :)

What about other users in your house, are they wireless or planning on going wireless? I still would go with a wireless N router that supports G either way :)

Then the difference is minimal. I'd still get then n, but only if it's about the same price.

Alright. Thanks for the help ^_^

My pleasure.

Something else to point out- you can buy a n card for your laptop separately. It will really speed up your surfing if you get the n router.
