View Full Version : A Religion Question -Who Goes To Hell?

I have an older neighbor a few houses away from ours. He's normal like most everyone and has a job and kids, etc. However, sometimes he walks up and down the block with a bible in his hand and preaches. (People don't do that here!) Yesterday, he sees me when I was walking home after swimming and comes over to me. He says, "Eric, have you accepted Jesus Christ in your life?" I told him not really. He said I'll go to hell if i don't. It got me thinking. So here's my question ---What about all the millions of people who lived and died before Jesus was born? Are they in hell even though they didn't have the opportunity to follow Jesus and repent for their sins? And what about all the native peoples who lived in remote places on the globe since Jesus who were never exposed to Christianity? Hell for them too? So can someone try to answer? I'm not knocking anybody's belief.

Jesus was meant to be the ultimate sacrifice. Before Jesus, people would offer an offering to God whenever they committed a sin. Then, if you accepted God into your heart than you went to heaven. Nowadays, it's the same a then, minus the sacrificing part because Jesus did that for us. As for the people around the globe that are unexposed to God, that's why so many churches have missionaries to try to get as many people to follow Jesus as they can. I hoped this helped. If you have any questions feel free to pm me! :)

I think the bible says that children, mentally handicapped, and those not exposed to god all go to heaven. Don't quote me on it though because I'm not exactly sure.

Other than the Disbelievers, Apostates, Evil doers and etc. . No one else is going to hell, those who are not knowledgeable of God and such.

Eskimo: "If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?"
Priest: "No, not if you did not know."
Eskimo: "Then why did you tell me?"

Not true. I know someone who's going to Hogwarts this summer. See! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wizarding_World_of_Harry_Potter)

Just trying to bring a little humor into the thread.

Christianity says anyone who lives a "good life" will go to heaven and be saved from hell. There is also a gnostic gospel that says everyone gets to heaven eventually, all that matters is how much repenting you have to do between when you die and when you get in.

Aside from faithful christians, people who are good in life, even those who don't know about God will (including infants who died at childbirth, though they may go to the 1st Circle of Hell, where it is just as pleasing as heaven, without God). I'm not sure because I still haven't died, at least.

I think the bit about who goes to Hell has been answered. Now here comes the fullness of my 8 years of religion classes, the last 3 of which have been rather intense: on the question of those who died before Jesus became the Word Incarnate and lived among man, eventually dying for our sins and conquering death, the Catholic Church says these people were in the "Hell of the righteous." Apparently a much better place than the Hell of the damned, but still apart from God. When Christ died, he went to this Hell of the righteous, freeing all the believers who had been apart from God: Moses, Noah, all those types, and took them to Heaven. Obviously those who were in the Hell of the damned remained there, and will for all eternity.

So there you have, the best theological teachings, wasted on a gay liberal agnostic. Oh the holy mortifyin' shame of it :P

i always thought if you were baptized you would go to heaven isn't that the reason pastors come into hostpitals and baptize infants that may die.

First, please don't double post. That's what the edit button is for.

Second, the beliefs vary from one denomination to the other. Some believe you cannot enter heave without being baptized. Others see it as a more symbolic gesture, being done for the comfort of the parents.

There will be Hell. Hell is a probable scenario, hell is a possible certainty.

And I don't know who lied to you that we are not going to hell, we all are going.
It is vacant for every human stepped on this planet.

Even these people will go to hell. Heck, they weren't afraid of fire back then, you expect them to be in Hell fire!?

Look >> Adam and his children!

Well i don't believe in hell...just heaven and the after life(like the second, giant earth),and i think there also a bunch of other types of "after lifes" but if there is only heaven and hell, then i think just becuz you don't believe in Jesus doesn't mean your going to hell.

I believe in Jesus, but I am not a Christian. I am not even baptized. Well I go to hell? Well, according to Christianity, I will got to hell.

Why those people don't believe in hell is what really bothering me.

People think "Oh! There is no hell! there is heaven and we will leave peacefully in there!" You know what? Heaven is itself a paradox.

I don't believe in a evil hell, no,but i do believe there is a second Earth which would be sorta like a hell with out all the brimstone and fire, just it's going to be lonely.I think as long as you make peace and lead real peace, not your "peace", you go to heaven or any other after life you want.I think life is literally is a journey to reach heaven,i think you don't go to heaven until your content.I think the lowest afterlife is like a hell and you stay there for a period of time(i think how many people you caused true pain without making up for it is how many years you'll be in there, but it's so lonely that it may seem like forever)but i think as long as you believe in some God and make peace or if your atheist try to make peace or happiness then yeah you will go to heaven.

Seriously, if the hell were real we'd all be going there as according to the Bible we're all sinners.

You must realize you can't prove this, there is no way. Absolutely positively no way. So why believe in something that has a possibility, even probability of being false?

There is no second hell. There is an evil hell.

Hell is described beautifully in all the 3 books. Torah of Moses, The complete compilation also known as 'Bible' which included the new testament and the final complementation(and extra) of the books which is also known as Qu'ran aka Book of Epitaph, Yahweh; version 4.019.

It is also described that hell is to serve every human. Whether you have been saved by Jesus or no. You are going to hell.

I made a new term. Infernosist.

We may rest assured that no one will suffer in hell who could by any means have been won to Christ in this life. God leaves no stone unturned to rescue all who would respond to the convicting and wooing of the Holy Spirit
Does anyone know where this guy lives? Because I want to give a him a nice "wake up" slap. He is living in a world of faux Fantasy.
