I used to jack off without lube, but then I started using lube. I experimented with hand lotion, shampoo, petroleum jelly, and the water-based K-Y. After using all of them, I'm happy to say that K-Y is my favorite! It is perfectly safe, far easier to clean off, and you don't have to worry about long term problems that are usually affiliated with things like hand lotion.
