I think you should get him a card. Let him know that you still do love and care for him as your father. Even though you guys do have problems he does love you just probably doesn't know how to show it.

You should get him a card, then when he throws it on the fire, you will know his feelings towards you. My dad is thrilled when I buy him a card or present for his birthday/fathers day etc, and yours should be too.
