We have a thread for the Beatles, so why not Metallica? Vote in the poll... and write your opinions on them, I guess.
Huge fan here, btw.

I like them. They're the not the greatest metal band on Earth, like some people make them out to be, though.

I dislike Metallica quite a bit. Their songs sound similar and James Hetfield(?) sounds freaking constipated. I think they're way too overrated because they're not anything special. I'm not too big of a thrash metal fan, anyway. If I have to listen to thrash metal, I'll just listen to Megadeth.

'Talllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiiicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I love 'Tallica, great band and metal icons that have influenced many bands (Machine Head, anyone?). James Hetfield is the man. Favourite album: Ride the Lightning, favourite song: Fade to Black, Wherever I may Roam or One.

I know a few songs, most on Master Of Puppets. They have great guitar solos and there is so much emotion in their songs.

Not really my kind of music, but a mate of mine likes only metal and if I had to choose a CD to listen to from his collection it would be Metallica - I can cope with them, compared to some of the bands he listens to.

You forgot Fade To Black, One, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Battery, The Day That Never Comes, Nothing Else Matters, Wherever I May Roam and For Whom The Bell Tolls, among many other amazing songs by 'Tallica. I love 'Tallica, they were the first metal band I ever heard so they got me into teh metulz and their songs are just amazing (let's just forget about St. Anger (spit) and Load and Reload, shall we?). They influenced fuck know how many other bands (Machine Head, anyone?) and are metal icons. Jess, listen to some of the songs I've just said.

A great band doesn't have a bunch of songs that sound similar.

Lol, Dragonforce.... Since I don't like them I haven't take the time to hear a lot of their songs because I don't like them. The songs I have heard sound so similar. James Hatfield has a one pitch voice.

Metallica changes their sound with every album. It's what makes them a long lasting yet highly criticized band. Hetfield's voice slowly gets worse as you move along the discography, yes, but it's one of Metallica's defining features.

I have to disagree with you on the first part. Metallica hasn't been awesome since 1989, and they haven't been good since 2003. St. Anger is a terrible album. I have to cherry pick off of Load and ReLoad. I never had to cherry pick off of the first five albums, and I consider ...And Justice For All to be the greatest metal album ever produced.
No, Metallica is nowhere near as good as they used to be. Lars hasn't been a good drummer for decades.
As for the concerts, the last time Metallica came to Houston was 2 years ago. That was before I started listening to them, so I didn't know about it. Now that the Death Magnetic tour is ending, I doubt they'll be back here for a long time.
