A lot of people actually find themselves gaining weight as they get healthier. The simple reason is because muscle mass is heavier than fat mass.
I cannot advise you of any type of exercise/weight lifting, except that the BEST way to lose weight is by walking and/or running. Simple.
Now to fix your diet, that's a great expertise of mine.
First, be sure you're eating a VARIETY of fruits and vegetables. Make sure you have them with each meal and use fruits/vegetables as snacks. Do not go to the local store and buy and eat chips, or anything similar to fatty foods. Also keep in mind that french fries do not count as a vegetable. Also note some vegetables may not be as good for you as others. The two that come to mind for me are corn and potatoes. If possible, avoid these. Almost every product you eat contains some type of corn substance (high fructose corn syrup, corn starch, corn oil, everything has CORN)
Many people say "meat" is good for building muscle. It doesn't really help you build muscle, instead it gives you energy to do so. Eating extra meat = more protein and is actually not too good for anyone. Over eating protein may cause your kidneys to begin to hurt. The average recommended amount of protein is 50 grams, but can go up or down depending on your body weight. Many athletes exceed this amount, by far.
Many people simply have weight issues because they never stop eating. Do this: If you walk to your fridge and stare at it not knowing what you want, close the fridge and walk away. You are not eating because your hungry, you're eating because you're bored. Most people who are hungry already have some idea of what they want to eat before they ever move to get it.
Another good tip to speed up your metabolism, keep a healthy circulatory system, and give you more energy is to consume extra vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 deficiency is rare; however, people who are not deficient may still get benefits from consuming it. It naturally speeds up your metabolism, keeps your heart healthier, and gives you a lot of extra energy (possibly to exercise). The pills are cheap and you get a lot of them. You may also be able to ask your family doctor for B12 injections, as they are often given to people for almost no reason. One important note is that B12 is water soluble so it is not toxic even at high levels. You can consume B12 all day. Vitamin B12 is associated with foods that have protein, predominately meat...which may also be why many athletes eat extra meat. It is truly possible to get extra B12 without meat...do it with injections or safe pills.
