I have quite a large, dark freckle over my belly button. It's about the size of the far end of a ball point pen. Anyway, it used to be smooth but slightly raised from my skin. I went on holidays for a week and I got alot of sun and now there are very rough black spots covering the freckle.

I think it's a freckle anyway, I dont know how to tell if its a freckle or a mole or brown spot.
Does anyone know if this is anything to worry about?

Get it checked out. Whenever any mark on your skin changes size, color, or shape, it's time for a dermatologist.

The only way anyone can be sure is if you get a sample of it tested. Go and see your doctor and they can organise this.

As the above people said above a dermatologist (Skin Doctor) will be able to tell you what it is. That sounds like a very odd thing for it to do. It could be serious or it could be nothing, but do not take any chances, just get it checked out.
