Is the urine sample in a sports physical for drug testing? If it is, I figure going straight-edge for about 3 weeks prior will do the trick?

Depends on who's doing it but it's often just testing for steroids.

The amount of time varies depending on what you're using.

depends on what sort of drugs you're doing, and what they're looking for. marijuana stays in your blood up to two weeks i believe. not too sure about the other ones, but i'm sure the worse the drug, the longer it hangs around in your body.

In sports I'd assume it's for steroids but it may be for other illegal substances. The length of stay depends on what the drug is, the amount you use of it, the frequency you use of it and if you use other drugs that may interact with it. From some personal experience and experience of others (which I'm not going to divulge into) there are certain common masking agents and techniques. Due to their common usage, labs will test for them so it may be illegal for the sport if you do try to mask the drug.
