I am recently developing opinions on politics, and I fully understand the difference between democrats and republicans. I'm trying to decide which party I really belong to.

Here are the things i agree with from each side:

Democratic Party
Abortion rights - Nobody should have to raise a child they don't want.
Gay rights - Gays are no less human than anyone else, and there is nothing corrupt about the typical "gay lifestyle."
Open government - Our country is run by the people, for the people, so there shouldn't be anything we can't know as citizens.
Environmentalism - Humans need to coexist with this planet or there won't be a planet to coexist with. Not to forget the health benefits of an environmentalist government.
Science - America has always been a leader in science and research. Religion should not put a cap on innovation.
Stem Cell Research - Again, this research is making use of something that would otherwise be thrown away. Why not?
Community services - Everyone deserves a fair chance in this world, so coming from a poor family is no reason to die of the flu or not go to school.

Republican Party
Individual freedom 1 - This one is very important to me. We're very fortunate to live in this free country.
Individual freedom 2 - You can be what you are, and become what you are capable of becoming.
Individual freedom 3 - Everyone deserves the chance to achieve or fail.
Personal needs first - Help yourself before helping others will ensure success
Free Market - I should be able to determine my own future and live in my accomplishments.
Low Taxes - You know what to do with your money more than the government does.
National defense - We live in a dangerous world, and a strong national defense is necessary.

So clearly individual freedom is very important to me; it's what makes up the American Dream. Even still, everyone needs to start on the same foot and have a safety net.

Side note: The rich getting rich and the poor getting poorer is never a good thing. A dependable society is important

Side note: The democratic beliefs tend to make me feel safe, while the republican beliefs make me feel confident.

Help???

Gather your views and that which you most find sensible, then form your own philosophy.
You do not have to adhere to the strict beliefs and specified judgments of such parties.

Republican or Democratic? Not necessary, unless you do share the majority of any beliefs that is respective to any of the two specified politics.

do a political compass test and if your strong right wing, then its republic and if your more left/centre then your a democrat

dont listen to the politics that are only saying promises.

That's sort of inherently part of what makes politics politics.
