As most baseball fans probably know, Detroit tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga was merely 1 out away from a perfect game. This would have been the third already this season, with Dallas Braden and Roy Halladay throwing ones earlier this season. What should have been the final out, a slow grounder to first ended up being a blown call allowing Jason Donald to reach safely on an infield single, breaking up the perfect game with 2 out In the 9th inning. Joe Joyce a veteran 22 year umpire in the league missed perhaps the biggest call in his career, costing Galarraga perfection.

What are your thoughts on the situation? I mean, when a guy has a no hitter and a play is that close on the last out you've got to call that. I'm extremely upset despite not being a tigers fan, but it's situations like these that make me think there should be instant replay reviews for plays like this in baseball. The replay clearly showed him being out.

The Commissioner should overrule the bad call and give Gallaraga his perfect game. It would be very wrong if he doesn't because perfect games are soooo rare and historical. It's bad for the reputation of Baseball if it's not overruled. I don't see any downside for making this one exception. This doesn't mean Baseball needs to begin instant replay. It's just for this one special case. Gallaraga earned it. The dude should get what he deserves by getting 27 guys out in a row. It wasn't even that close a play. The throw beat the runner by a half step. The umpire said he messed up and was even crying about it. The overruling would also help the umpire by not making him feel guilty for the rest of his life.

Yeah I heard about the umpire getting emotional and crying. I think Selig already said he's not reversing the call though. Human error is part of the game but it shouldn't be in situations like that. I'm all for video review on certain plays in baseball.

if video replay were to be used in baseball, the games would never end, and last 4 hours in some cases.. i think they should just keep it the way it is.. because no one is perfect.

I'm saying maybe allow a team to review one play a game, it wouldn't take longer than what? 5 Minutes? It's not like the game would never end.

28 up and 28 down

and as for replay only the umpire in the booth would review it and call down to the field if a call was wrong
