So, I want to get my Laptop (Windows 7) and my mom's desktop (Vista) on a network, so I don't have to download the printer to my laptop, so I can do it wirelessly.

How do I go about that?

Well, you must first have a wireless printer and wireless internet.

Ours came with a CD and we had to plug the printer into one of the computers with a USB cord and follow the instructions on the CD.

Please note your printer connects to the wireless modem, not to the computers. So when you print it sens a signal from computer to wireless modem to printer. If internet goes out, you cannot print. If you're not connected to the wireless network, you can also not print.

You DO NOT need a wireless printer.

I know how to do it, as I have our printer set to run like that in our house too, but I can't think of it now, and I don't have access to our PC, so do you mind if I tell you tomorrow? :P

Then your printer must connect directly to the modem of your network.

There is no way for the printer to communicate with more than one computer unless it goes through the modem.

Yes there it. It uses the Windows Home Group function in Vista and 7. And it is also possible in XP. Printer is connected to host comouter, which is connected to the router. When printer sharing is on, as long as the host computer is turned on, the printer is shared across the network.

John: (I hope thats your name, based on your sig, if its not Im sorry :P). Google "share printer between vista and 7" and Id say one of the first few results will br very helpful.

As long as they're both on the same network:

On the computer the printer is connected to:
Open up any Windows Explorer window and type in (Or copy/paste): "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers"
Right click on the printer you wish to share on the network & click on "Printer Properties"
Click on the "Sharing" tab & check the checkbox "Share this printer". Give it a name, and hit the "OK" button.

On the computer you wish to print remotely from:
Again, in any Windows Explorer window open (Or copy/paste): "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers"
This time along the top, click on "Add a printer", then click on "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer"
It will do a quick scan on the network for shared printers, once it finds yours, hit next, then next again.

You then should be able to print wirelessly.

HAHA. I didn't know that was possible. Looks like it is.

I argued with a guy at Circuit City for an hour once about this. He basically told me what I told you...haha. So I eventually bought a wireless printer...it is convenient as it can be placed anywhere in the house. Well, I guess this might be one reason Circuit City isn't in business anymore.
