My dad takes DHEA pills for some reason I don't know exactly. I was reading about them and I've heard they raise testosterone levels, etc. I was just wondering if I start taking them will it affect puberty time. I am 15 almost 16 am in the fourth stage of puberty.

Well, DHEA pills are steroids. But, whatever you heard is not true, they found that the steroids did not significantly raise the levels of testosterone. If however you did have a higher level of testosterone in the body, it will affect only a few things, such as hair growth and voice changing, and to some extent how horny you become. But it wont affect things such as height.

Yes, I am not interested in getting much taller, I am already six foot. However body hair and voice deepening are more of what I was interested in. So you are saying that DHEA will affect that?

No, DHEA Has shown it doesn't raise testosterone levels in guys. So really you'd be looking at a hormone enhancer, talk to your doctor.

By hormone enhancer you mean it will just make me more horny, and that is all it will do?

No, Testosterone is a hormone. So it'll do exactly what i've said above. You'll grow hair and your voice will change faster. Your sex drive will probably also be affected by it. Your doctor will decide whether you should be put on a course of them, but if you don't need them, its quite unlikely.

I wouldn't advise taking anything without going to your doctor first.

I'm not sure but I wouldn't reccomend it. I think you're body has to go through natural processes in its own time, only if you've got some sort of like puberty disability or something then it would be advisable to take them ;)

my mom is a nutritionist. she tells me and many other kids to NOT take additional hormones, especially when you are below 25 years old. because if you do take extra hormones when your young (going through puberty). your body will compensate and will greatly reduce the amount of hormones your body naturally creates. that means in the future your body might be a little off. causing ED (Erectile Dysfunction) and other problems.

I suggest not taking any additional hormones and letting your body take its course. im sure you will be okay, just be happy with who you are :)

exceptions are when your body does not create enough testosterone or estrogen (for girls), do to some birth problem or some disability. In that case your doctor will have you on meds probably by the time puberty should start but you seem pretty normal so you shouldn't worry about it :)
