I plan on joining either the Marines or Army (having trouble deciding between the two, but leaning towards Marines.)
If so, why are you interested in the military?
I have a few reasons:
1. I like to protect things.
2. I like helping people.
3. I like having a strict, physically tough lifestyle.
4. Most of the guys in my family have been or are in the military.

Well for many they think of it as a cool way to help their country but I know a few who aren't doing well enough in school to earn a decent living otherwise. I also know a few who just plain want to.

Well I'm aware of the consequences and chances of death for joining the military. lol It's pretty bad.
But, I suppose if I were to die, I would want it to be for something.
Military sounds like a good career for me. :)

I plan on going to West Point or Annapolis. I like leading and teaching, and apparently I'm good at it or so I am told. And to be honest the lifestyle appeals to me.

Good luck to him, if he can manage it he should get it (ranger school) into his contract prior to joining. That way he will go straight there from basic. Be warned though if he fails he go wherever and do whatever the needs of the army are at that moment. Or so I understand it.

I briefly considered joining the Navy (family history) at the end of last year when I was panicking over GCSE results but I was successfully talked out of it. Bad idea to join at 16 anyway, although it can be done in England.
Props to anyone who is joining the military but I'm too lazy and cowardly to do it myself.

I want to join the Army, or possibly the Israeli Defense Forces.
But, my father is kind of against it, seeing that I am from a very Religious home, and he's worried about things being boys and girls in the mix.
However, I might just stick with volunteering, at least I would be doing something, you know?

I refuse to ever become a murderer for the state.
War is never ever justified. I agree with the use of reasonable force for self defense, but never killing. One side is never better than the other; the idea of it being ok for the US and UK e.t.c. to go to the middle east and kill 'terrorists' makes no sense at fucking all. Terrorism is merely a false mental construct - who has the ability to say they're better than other people and therefore can kill them? Killing is killing. Our side is as bad as the 'terrorist' side in the current war; it's killing based on unfounded ideals (religious or not).
It's not even a legal war for fucks sake. At no point was war declared on either side. It was a bloody invasion.
Whilst I hold full respect for all service personnel, they're still murders in my eyes. I hold absolutely no contempt towards them, I just don't see how one side is better than the other.
So yer, I hate the concept of one human being killing another.
Tea time now.

Nobody brought the middle east into it except you. Not all soldiers are heinous criminals as you say. So was the U.S. not justified enough to join WWII after Pearl Harbor was bombed? Stop living in a fairy tale land, war is a necessary evil sometimes.

David was just stating his opinion on war. This thread is not a debate on war and its justification. If you wish to take that further make a thread of your own in the ROTW Forum.

I would like to join the Coast Guard. Seems like something fun. My Dad, and My Grandfather both served in the Air Force. I was thinking about the Air Force, but I find I like more things in the Coast Guard, like Search and Rescue.
My Dad really supports my decision, but I have a few years till that time, so more thinking along the way.
