Neurofibromatosis type I (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neurofibromatosis_type_I)
I have Nf-1. Mom told me and gave me a book about it last year. I am the only one in my family that has it. It doesn't affect my school life or anything.
I want to know if anyone else have this genetic disorder

Sorry I have never encounted anyone with this disorder.

If it's genetic..wouldn't that mean someone else in your family has it too?
I, like above, don't know anyone with it. Must be hard to go through?

Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone has it. Like I don't think anyone in my school knows I have it
@Lovehatetragedy
No, only I have it :S but idk I will ask but I am sure my brothers definitely don't have it.

it could have been carried down a gene with each parent being a carrier causing any child they have could possibly be a carrier or have it.

I see I will ask my parents about this

There line of carriers in the family. her mom and dad both have to carry it, but it's possible for no one in the family to have it [though unusual, if both people are carriers there's a 1/4 chance of the child getting it.]

up to 50% of NF-1 cases arise due to spontaneous mutation
maybe I got it because of this?

...How did I miss that? Yes, that's possiable, and i guess if *no* one has had it thats more likely.

Actually, it's dominant so either it's a mutation, or one of her parents actually has the disease.
Jess, ask them. What have you got to loose?
