I hope this is the right place, if not then I apologize and mods, help me out please :)

Ok so I want to get tested for STD's but I'm not sure how to go about it. I DO NOT want to tell my mom unless I am positive and then I can't see how I could keep it a secret. My question is whether or not I can get tested, confidentially, on my own at 16. I live in Michigan btw. I just need to know what Michigan law says about medical confidentiality and minors.

I'm worried mostly about whether the results will be confidential. I can always go in during a yearly physical and say something to the doc privatly but I don't want him to have to go to my mom for permission to test me. Also, how do they test for STD's? Do they use blood, or urine, or saliva? Any and all information about this subject is welcome! HELP ME PLEASE!

Look for a free clinic. You should be able to do it without parent's consent.

If you are sexually active, then you need to get tested. But if you're not, don't do it, sence there is no point.

i think generally it is confidential and you can make sure that it is kept between you and your doctor and no else like your mum involved

yeah, I think everything is confidential, at least in Maryland. I recently got tested and parents asked what the results were. I don't think they would of if they had been mailed the results or whatever. As for the tests they took a blood sample and then took a swab of the urethra. Sucks but its over fast.

the test depends on the type of std they are going to test for. if its hiv then its a urethra swab or blood. etc. but as far as the confidentiality i am not to sure im michigan but it is better to let your parents know if you have any fears than dying at an early age from an STD. (sorry to be so blunt.)

A lot of your questions are answered here: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/stds-hiv-safer-sex/std-testing-21695.htm

Planned Parenthood has been a sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate for a long time. They have testing and can also provide you with contraception.

There's more information here about cost and what diseases they can test for: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-center/sexually-transmitted-disease-std-testing-treatment-26175.htm

If you're worried about a possible infection, I would suggest at least showing up at one of their centers if you can; don't be scared. It's what they do. And as far as "Michigan laws" or whatever, ask them.

Remember that some STDs, such as HIV, can't be tested for successfully until about 3 months after your possible exposure. It all depends on the situation.

And remember: don't be silly, wrap your willie.
