How come you have to have a certain number of posts to pm people? And when did this start?

This was brought in recently for the safety of members.
you must have 100 posts.
also please look for similar threads in a forum before posting as there has been multiple threads posted on this topic in the last few weeks

Its also in the big, red, bolded, announcement, that is VERY obvious at the top of every, single, forum, on the site.

Well... other issues means that. In that it says this:
Since VMs have been enabled for the entire site, members with less than 100 posts have seen their PMs disabled.

That's wrong Jack, it is mentioned in there:-
Since VMs have been enabled for the entire site, members with less than 100 posts have seen their PMs disabled.
(Edit: post coincided with Siobhan's)

My point in posting that was that the information that she wanted is all over the site and very obvious in some/most cases.

There was a lot of debate on this issue on the other thread as already mentioned ^^.
The idea that members should have 100 posts or over to allow them to pm other members was introduced to protect the newer and younger members on this site from being hassled or cammed.
I'm 14 and I imagine I'm in either one or both of these categories. I'm not sure that the new rule will make sufficient difference to the people whom it was designed to detract, and I enjoyed the facility to say hi to another member via the pm system from time to time but the rules are the rules and that's fine by me.
On the flip side of this though is the fact that I was hassled by another member (male) who asked by pm if I would share/swap pics presumably for some sexual fetish. My answer was, instead of engaging with this member, to report the pm I had received to an administrator who swiftly dealt with it and the offending member was banned.
Therefore from my point of view, irrespective of the rules and the people who have moaned about it, for any other victims of pms like the one I received, simply report it to admin and it will be taken care of.

Okay Okay I see the link people thanks. I was just asking because a few months ago I sent a pm and I didn't have 100 posts and I still don't. I was just wondering my bad.
