Hey there.
I am a regular user of much of the psych ward and I was thinking that our forums are very open. What I mean is that anyone off the internet are able to go onto the site onto the Psych forums and read at our personal lives and stories. I understand that we knew this from the start however I feel that I didn't only because I was so happy that I had found people like me to talk to.

I was wondering if we may be able to have them like the WPR as then only members are able to look at them. However I do also understand that anyone can make a membership but I feel that they will only look at it if they want/need help.

I can see where you're coming from to be honest, but the reason this site is so popular is the fact people do not have to sign up here to receive help for problems like that, or to see that others are in the same boat as them. Some people don't want to sign up, just want to look around, in that case we have to allow for that, plus the fact many people are restricted to where they can and can't go when using family computers so they'll look for help without any strings attached. Our aim always has been the psych ward, so really it needs to stay public.

If you're suggesting that we make the psych ward a "private" place we cannot do that. This is what started VT. The people that are un registered before they join may want to look at it and this could make them join if they see help. Though if it is private how is the person that is not a member supposed to find help? I see where you're coming from, but the psych ward is one of the major parts of this site. We have to keep it public.

I know that you've said you already knew it was public before you posted.
But if you don't want loads of people reading your personal things, then just don't post in as much detail, be basic.

I understand all your points I just find it rather weird that the most personal and deep thing on the site anyone on the internet can read.
People are easily able to create an account and they can have a feel from the site reading all the other forums.
If they have a problem where they aren't able to go on sites like these or whatever they will simply be able to delete their history.
So yeah whatever just a suggestion.

It's not that easy. Some people are strictly watched by their parents on the internet. We want them to feel safe when they come here. So when they see that there are others like them they join, but if we had it a private forum we would have an overload of new users joining just to view that thread. it would just cause unnecessary problems.

This question comes up constantly. So it got me thinking. What if we had one sub forum in the psych ward that was private. It would be a generalized forum, anything that fits in any of the psych ward sub forums would be accepted there and it would give people who need that privacy a chance to speak.

I'm not sure I'm even in favor of this idea but I'm putting out there for people to think about.

If I am correct, you can have a mod post the thread for you if you want to remain anonymous.

It shall be left open to anyone.

People can get help on VT, without registering. It's like P101, they find the answer they need, and move on.. Unlike the rest of us did :P

Well some areas of our site are private but I don't think that we would attract many teens that need help if our psych ward was private.

People find solace when reading similar stories.

If you need to post privately, simply post in your Blog or post in TWPR

Well if you really wanna keep it private, it can go in your blog, only members can read them.

Ok.
Another though...
What about making a button or something so you can make it un readable??
Just a though, no rude comments please ...

That's probably not possible on vBulletin.

I don't think that would work. If you want things to be kept to you're self I'm not sure if this is true, but I don't think diaries are public to guests so if you just want to vent about it and keep it a little less public that would be the way to go. Open a diary and have a thread about it. The psych ward is for open help and for those who need help and people to relate to.

I can really see where you are coming from. You are opening up about something personal and all of a sudden its out there and once it is out there you can not take it back and make it private again - it is a very scary thing and I understand your concern.

However look at it this way. What are you? A person. What are you on the internet? A user name. A user name can disappear and become nothing. So you aren't really opening up to the world, you still have that protection. I think to add more protection, which you suggest, would be overkill.
