Ive had a PS3 since Nov 07 and i love it. The online is free, and I think that it is just as good as the XBL, and just as reliable. It has most of the same games as the 360, but aot are better quality because BluRays hold so much more information. And the BluRay drive is much better and much faster than our stand alone player.
I would definitely recommend it, and at $300 its a lot cheaper than it used to be.

Both are almost exactly the same.
here are the pros/cons:
PS3:
Pros-
-Free Online
-Nice Interface (pretty easy to navigate)
-Blu-Ray
-Decently Priced (around $200 where i live)
-Pretty Good games
-no Red Ring of Death (although there are other probs with it)
Cons-
-"yellow light of death" (though according to my friend's dad who owns a game store, it is usually fixable)
-No many exclusive games (no Halo etc.)
-Controller Setup (I don't like it very much, but it's okay)
Xbox 360
Pros-
-Lots of Exclusive Games
-Good Interface
-Attractive Interface :)
-Xbox Live (i find it better than PS3 online)
-If you join xbox live you get to make an avatar that you can dress up and everything
-Good controller setup (for me at least)
-if you spend a little extra the memory can be upgraded
Cons-
-Red ring of death
-Games can sometimes melt if the xbox overheats (but if you actually TRY to prevent that it doesn't happen very often)
-sometimes damages disks (i think the newer ones solved this though)
-xbox live is not free
Both are priced at around the same range
Both are almost the same in terms of funcionality and interface
Both are very good gaming machines
I have an xbox and i love it, the PS3 is good too, but the controller feel s to wimpy in my hands and plus most of the games are reversed controls if you're used to pulling triggers forshooter games
i.e. R1 is fire instead of the trigger button R2, which is grenades, while on the xbox, the trigger button RT is fire and the grenades are RB, the other button.

Depends. What is your gaming preference? Action and adventure goes to the PS3, while more shooter like games goes to the 360 because the controller is better for shooters. It's bigger and has a trigger. Do you want free online or pay to play?

I've generally always preferred the PS3.. I've been a fan of PlayStation since the first one, so brand loyalty and all that...
Plus, Having been on the 360 plenty of times, I can safely say that I hate the controller :)

It's all preference. Also the PS3 might have an edge in longevity of the console. I mean look at the PS2 still selling and still making great games.

All I know is I own an Xbox 360 and got one because most of my friends had one, I love it and have not had many problems but I think I'm lucky because of all the stories I've heard.
The friends of mine who have both a PS3 and 360 say that their PS3 collects dust unless they use it to watch BluRay movies. So that just makes me think that 360 has the better setup

I like the 360 system better, simply because it seems to have a better interface. The Ps3, before you learn the system, it can be a bit disorienting on how to find system info and anything like that. The Xbox 360, you can find it a lot faster.
But also, the games depend. Like Jake said, the 360 is more shooter types. The PPs3 is more the adventure.

Bullshit i get lost in the xbox interface lol how could you go wrong with a simple XMB interface (i was able to work the ps3 completly straight out of the box) all you have to do is go to settings mate :D
i worked it out a while ago but with a PS3 slim 250gb against a super elite (both with two games in box) with all the add ons needed like live and the router thingy the xbox works out £20 dearer (feel free to challenge that it was from Gamestop website i worked it out a while back)

3-D is fantastic i have tried it on a pc and it was unbelivable. It was like the diffrence between 'Doom' and 'Half live 2'.

PS3. I've had an xbox, with the exclusives, quite a few times, but I always end up selling it. Fanboy posts FTW
