I practice by stalker-drawing my classmates during lectures. Though that gets awkward when they go through your sketchbook. Also, blind contour drawings. And gesture drawings. And most of all: PERSEVERANCE. I do so hate that word, anywho, best wishes.

I do the same thing. I've looked at a few books that helped a lot, but I draw with a visual aid. I drew one of my friends in math class, but I haven't told her... Hahaha, no, I'm not a stalker. Otherwise I'd say try visualizing basic shapes making up a ore complex image that you want to draw, then erase and add detail. I'm no expert myself, but I try. And perseverance is important, as starbrite5 stated. Just keep trying, and don't try to be like other people in your style. Just draw what you draw.

Ok I can do a little anime but I am a realism drawin im 17 atm and working to master drawing the human must say its a pain in the butt. from what I have learned is STAY AWAY FROM DARK LINES. if you notice in real life most if not every except maybe man made items all are pretty smooth and blend into eachother somewhat their are no Black lines for edges. also try to study proportions as anime seems to have screwed up proportions compared to real life. I would also recommend trying to lay back on or stop drawing anime for a while until you get a hang of realism a bit and can safely switch between them so you do not get them mixed up or screw up while learning and forgeting. once you start to figure these out give me a message on a update and ill see what else i can tip on that your doing with your drawings.
here is a drawing i did however it is blurred cause my camera sucks and havent been able to get to a scanner but u may be able to see what i meen but im not sure.

Here are some tips if you want to draw realistically but not a portrait-type picture.
1 practice drawing a nose. (I'm not sure if the style you draw in includes noses or just some shading showing where the person's nose is located)
2 Practice putting that nose on a face, and try to make the face a more ovular or spherical shape depending on the person you are drawing.
3 Try to draw in 3D if you don't already.
